LETLOA SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH HOSTS POSSIBILITY MINISTRIES SABBATH
• God who created us sent his only begotten son to die for us, disability included
• Our struggles are temporal
• People with disabilities should find the church as their second home
Letloa Seventh-day Adventist Church through its Adventist Possibility Ministries on April 18 hosted Possibility Ministries Sabbath under the theme The blessings in trials.
Deliberating on the theme during Divine Service, preacher of the day, Evangelist Edwin Sethibe explained that "there is no man who can take pain on behalf of others. Only Christ did by becoming a substitute for our sins," as indicated in 1 Peter 4:16, "Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf."
Evangelist Sethibe further highlighted that God needed people who would stand firm during trials with assurance that "But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you," 1 Peter 5:10.
God of all grace is watching us. He implored the gathering to "hold on in faith for this is just a season (short time)." The preacher also gave a clear picture about the life in new earth described in Isaiah 11:6-9, "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den."
Disability representative, Mr Motlhale Babesi appreciated that "disabilities have different challenges, yet protected by God like Daniel in lions' den." "God who created us sent his only begotten son to die for us, disability included. Therefore, I believe that nowadays we should realise that God loves us. Seeing the sun shining proves that God exists. We should not doubt the presence of God," Mr Babesi expressed.
He gave example of Joseph who was sold by his biological brothers but God favoured and elevated him. "God protects us day and night," Mr Babesi said. He was of a view that "trials should not separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:35). Lets trust our God and walk boldly, allowing him to rule our lives (Psalm 33:10)."
On objectives of the day, Elder in-charge of Adventist Possibility Ministries, Ms Masego Garegae said the theme The blessings in trials was relevant; "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong," 2 Corinthians 12:9-10.
"People with disabilities should find the church as their second home because Christ who is our father is theirs too," Ms Garegae said. We are gifted differently but like pearls in God's hands. Also, she said, church members adopt and form friendship with the visitors by studying God's word and pray together." She called for nurturing of their gifts because they were special. Elder Garegae also presented gifts to visitors.
During Sabbath School, Gaborone based choir, Divine Envoys Ministries pondered on the theme. They noted that the trials refined our character, James 1:2-4, "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."
"Our struggles are temporal. In all trials, God is with us," they said, referencing to Job who went through trials yet his faith remained anchored in God. "Humanity should refrain from perception that trials fall upon it because of its action contrary to God's will. Lets take time to know God," they emphasised, adding that "God wants good for us as indicated in Jeremiah 29:11)." The choir further noted that "being Christians does not mean that you are going to be spared from trials. Even in pain, God is still with you (Job 42:5)."
