“I have called you by name; you are mine.” - Isaiah 43:1

God calls everyone. Every person has a vocation – whether to religious life, marriage or to a particular career and each is a sacred gift from God. When we take time to listen deeply to God’s voice within, and to seek wisdom from spiritual directors and vocation ministers, we come to understand more clearly the path God invites us to follow.

At the ongoing IMBISA meeting dedicated to communication and disabilities, Sr. Sylvia Boifang Mogamphane SC presented a report on the state of the Church in Botswana, highlighting both progress made and the challenges that remain in fostering inclusive communication.

In her presentation, she emphasized the Church’s growing awareness of the need to embrace persons with disabilities as active participants in its life and mission. She noted that while efforts have been made to promote inclusion, significant gaps still exist—particularly in access to information, liturgical participation, and pastoral engagement.

Sr. Sylvia underscored that communication within the Church must go beyond words; it must be accessible, intentional, and inclusive, ensuring that every individual, regardless of ability, can encounter the Gospel fully. She called for practical steps such as the use of sign language in liturgy, accessible media formats, and the training of pastoral agents to respond to the diverse needs of the faithful.

Her report echoed the broader objective of the IMBISA gathering: to ensure that no one is excluded from the life of the Church due to barriers in communication. She urged the Church in Botswana, and across the region, to move from awareness to action, building communities where dignity is upheld and every voice is heard.

Her contribution served as both a reflection and a call to commitment, reminding participants that true communication in the Church must always be rooted in inclusion, compassion, and justice.
