The sign of the cross is a significant gesture in the Catholic faith, and it holds symbolic and spiritual meanings for Catholics. Here are a few reasons why Catholics make the sign of the cross:

Trinitarian Belief: The sign of the cross reminds Catholics of their belief in the Holy Trinity—the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. By touching their forehead, chest, and shoulders, Catholics symbolize their faith in the triune God.

Invocation of God's Presence and Protection: Making the sign of the cross is a way for Catholics to invoke God's presence and protection. It is a physical act that helps them focus their thoughts and intentions on God, seeking His guidance and safeguarding in their daily lives.

Remembrance of Christ's Crucifixion: The sign of the cross is closely associated with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. By tracing the cross on their bodies, Catholics remember and honor the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, his redemptive work, and his victory over sin and death.

Sacramental Action: The sign of the cross is considered a sacramental—a sacred sign or action that prepares believers to receive God's grace. Catholics often make the sign of the cross before and after prayers, during Mass, when entering or leaving a church, and on various other occasions.

Symbol of Faith: The sign of the cross is an outward expression of one's faith and identity as a Catholic. It serves as a visible sign to others and a reminder to the individual of their commitment to following Christ and living according to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

HOLY MONDAY ✝️

Gospel: John 12:1-11

Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him.
Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil
made from genuine aromatic nard
and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then Judas the Iscariot, one of his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said, “Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages
and given to the poor?"
He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions.
So Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial.
You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me."

The large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came, not only because of him, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. And the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too,
because many of the Jews were turning away
and believing in Jesus because of him.
