On Sunday, 6 September 2026, our District Rector, Priest Robert Fredericks served our congregation. Priest Adrian Coerecius was called up to serve.

Bible text - 1 John 5:8

The saving effect of the sacraments

Water, blood and Spirit.

It is in the sacraments that Christ's activity of salvation is present.

Holy Baptism offers new life in Christ. Holy Sealing completes the rebirth out of water and establishes the prerequisite for attaining the status of firstling. In Holy Communion, we receive the body and blood of Christ, and the strength to remain in eternal fellowship with Him.

When we ask God to connect us, we should remember our rebirth out of water and the Spirit and our childhood in God.
This gives us the assurance that God is our Father and that He helps us in all circumstances.

Let us seek to follow Christ’s example in our daily lives and do what pleases our heavenly Father.

We also had a special group visiting us. the NAC Bikers Association it was an extra treat and the special day ended with some fellowship, love and laughter!

_Change through forgiveness_

On Sunday, 26 July 2026, Rector Priest Shaun Minnaar served us in Highbury congregation, Priest Justin Swarts were called up to serve along.

As basis for the divine services, the bible text was taken out of Matthew 6 verse 12:
_"And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."_

Message
Those who reflect on God’s forgiveness discover within themselves a willingness to forgive.

Summary
■ Let us pass on the forgiveness we receive from God in our daily lives.
■ A negative example is the unforgiving servant who himself received forgiveness, but did not grant it to others.
■ It can be difficult and painful to forgive, but we can ask God to give us the strength we need to do so.

After a Blessed service our Young People presented Sunday School Lessons to our SS Kids.

Your Kingdon come

On Sunday, 12 July 2026, the District Rector, Priest Robert Fredericks served Highbury congregation.

As a basis for the divine service, the district rector, used a Bible text from Matthew 6:10 (portion NKJV) "Your Kingdom come".

Community Evangelist Steven Poole, was called to serve along.

The focus of the service centres on the fact that we are witnesses to both the present and the coming kingdom of God. The message emphasised that the kingdom of God is the central theme of Jesus’ preaching.

During the service baptism took place and one soul was adopted into the faith.

Thereafter deacon Jephtas was reinstated into his minister and was reinstated into the ministry and then brother Calvin Poole was assigned as the new district Young People leader for the Kuilsriver District.

Jesus’ descent into the realm
of the dead

Beautiful orchestral music, the smooth voices of the Sunday School Choir and the adult choir served as a final preparation for the members of Highbury congregation, before the divine service for the departed on Sunday 5 July 2026.

The Rector, Priest Shaun Minnaar, conducted the divine service for the departed in Highbury congregation. This was the second service for the departed of 2026. Priest Gavin Stols were called to serve along.

As a basis for the divine service, a Bible text from 1 Peter 4:6 (NKJV), reading, "For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in
the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit," was taken.

Based on this text, the rector reminded the congregation that after His death on the cross, Jesus descended into the realm of the dead and for three days preached to those in need of help and that the Gospel and sacraments are accessible to everyone, even to those in the beyond. The rector also referenced the three days that Jonah spend in the belly of a whale.

The rector mentioned, that Jesus, as the Saviour of humankind, went to those in need of help and “preached to the spirits in prison”, that is, to those souls who, during their lifetime, had lacked
knowledge of God and had failed to obey Him. These souls also included those who were disobedient in the time of Noah, and ignored Noah’s warnings and heedlessly carried on with their daily lives.

The preaching of the gospel
When Jesus went and preached to the dead, He spoke to them of
what serves to the salvation of both the living and the dead.

At the conclusion of the divine service, the choir delivered a majestic rendition of the hymn, Be consoled ye redeemed of the Lord.

After service our Young People accompanied Pr Hilton Basson and Pr Roy Berggren, joyful moments were spent in the homes of our members.
