Our persecuted brothers and sisters can count it all joy when they face persecution and trials, because these hardships draw them closer to God and make them more like Christ. Through suffering, they develop perseverance, so that they may become mature and complete, lacking nothing.

We have often heard testimonies from persecuted Christians who reached a point where they realized that all they had was God—and all they needed was God. In that place, they no longer longed for many possessions or favourable circumstances. They were content. Their spirits were comforted and sustained by His presence.

May we, too, learn to count it all joy when we encounter various trials, trusting that God is using them to shape us into the likeness of Christ.
