The Mirror of the Heart

Matthew 12:34

“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”

The words we speak reveal what is truly inside our hearts. Jesus taught that our speech is not accidental. Bitter words come from bitterness within. Loving words come from a loving heart. What fills the heart will eventually flow from the mouth.

A heart filled with anger will speak harshly. A heart filled with pride will speak proudly. But a heart changed by Christ will speak with grace, kindness, and truth.

Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Our words can either heal or hurt, build or destroy. This is why believers must guard not only their mouths, but also their hearts.

God desires speech that honors Him. Ephesians 4:29 teaches us to use words that edify and minister grace to others. A mature Christian is seen not only by actions, but also by conversation.

If your words are constantly negative, cruel, or bitter, the real issue may be deeper than the tongue. The heart needs to be surrendered to God. When Jesus changes the heart, the speech also begins to change.

Before speaking, ask yourself:
Do my words reflect Christ?

Sien jou kinders jou bid?
Sien hulle hoe jy na God toe gaan wanneer dit swaar gaan, wanneer dit goed gaan, wanneer jy antwoorde of genesing nodig het?

Leer jy hulle om te bid?
Sien hulle jou Bybel lees?
Weet hulle hoe lief Jesus hulle het?

Ons grootste verantwoordelikheid as ouers is nie net om ons kinders ‘n goeie lewe te gee nie — maar om hulle na Jesus toe te lei.

Om hulle te wys hoe die vrug van die Gees lyk. Om hulle te leer dat God ‘n God van liefde, genade en waarheid is.

Al die medaljes teen die muur, al die prestasies, al die aardse dinge beteken uiteindelik niks as hulle nie vir Jesus ken nie.

Want die grootste vraag as ons eendag in die hemel kom gaan wees:
“Sal my kinders ook eendag hier wees?”
En wat was my aandeel daarin?

Jou kinders gaan eendag iets van jou erf.

Nie net jou oë, glimlag of maniere nie…
maar ook die atmosfeer waarin hulle grootword.

Hulle gaan of jou geloof sien,
of jou vrese hoor.
of jou vertroue in God beleef,
of jou konstante bekommernis dra.

Kinders leer nie net uit wat ons sê nie
hulle leer uit hoe ons leef.
Hoe ons bid wanneer dinge moeilik raak.
Hoe ons opstaan ná teleurstelling.

Hoe ons aan God vasklou wanneer die wêreld skud.
Mag ons kinders nie ’n erfenis van vrees ontvang nie,
maar ’n nalatenskap van geloof.

Mag hulle weet:
“Mamma en Pappa het nie altyd al die antwoorde gehad nie…
maar hulle het God vertrou.”
