His Mercies Endure
Nahum 1:7 (NIV)
"The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him."
The prophet Nahum ministered during a time of uncertainty and judgment, yet in the midst of these realities he declared a powerful truth about the character of God. While circumstances may change, God's mercy remains constant. His goodness, protection, and loving care reveal that His mercies truly endure forever. This verse reminds believers that God is not distant from His people; He is actively present, sustaining those who place their trust in Him.
1. His Mercies Endure Through His Goodness
"The Lord is good..."
God's goodness is not merely something He does—it is who He is. Every act of grace, forgiveness, provision, and blessing flows from His good nature. Even when we do not understand our circumstances, we can trust that God remains good. His mercy reaches us daily, providing strength for today and hope for tomorrow.
When life becomes difficult, remember that God's goodness is not determined by your situation but by His unchanging character.
Psalm 100:5 – "For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."
2. His Mercies Endure Through His Refuge
"A refuge in times of trouble."
God does not promise a life free from trouble, but He promises to be our refuge within it. A refuge is a place of safety, security, and shelter. When storms arise, believers have a secure place in God's presence. His mercy provides protection for our hearts, peace for our minds, and confidence for our souls.
The safest place in times of uncertainty is not in human strength but in God's presence.
Psalm 46:1 – "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
3. His Mercies Endure Through His Care
"He cares for those who trust in him."
God's care is personal and intimate. He knows His children, understands their struggles, and walks with them through every season. The word "cares" reminds us that we are never forgotten or overlooked. His mercy is expressed through His constant attention to the needs of those who trust Him.
Trust opens our hearts to experience the loving care of a God who never abandons His people.
1 Peter 5:7 – "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
Conclusion
Nahum 1:7 reveals three enduring expressions of God's mercy: His goodness, His refuge, and His care. Whatever challenges we face today, we can stand confidently in the knowledge that God remains good, He is our safe refuge, and He lovingly cares for all who trust in Him. Because His character never changes, His mercies endure forever.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your enduring mercy. Help us to trust in Your goodness, run to You as our refuge, and rest in Your loving care. Strengthen our faith to depend on You in every season of life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Many blessings
