Diakonia JOB ALERT: COMMUNICATIONS PRACTITIONER
Diakonia Council of Churches invites suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of
COMMUNICATIONS PRACTITIONER
The role of the Communications Practitioner is to design and implement the communication initiatives of the organisation as well as provide strategic support to the Process Facilitators.
Working under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and closely with Process Coordinator, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Oversee the production of a wide range of communication products (newsletter, e-newsletter, annual report, promotional material, etc.)
+ Maintain the organisation's website and drive traffic to the site
+ Manage and maintain social media; including but not limited to, developing and uploading relevant and engaging content on the platforms
+ Media liaison
+ Prepare media releases and speeches
+ Photography and videography
+ Funding proposal writing
+ Donor searches
+ Donor report writing
+ Manage the image of the organisation
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
+ Strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
+ Excellent computer skills
+ Ability to work on own initiative
+ Attention to detail
+ Ability to work under pressure
+ Creativity - ability to come up with a lot of new, unique and interesting ideas
+ Relationship building and networking skills
+ Interpersonal skills - ability to relate to a wide range of people
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE
+ Relevant tertiary qualification in Communication, Media, Journalism, Marketing or Public Relations
+ At least 4 years work experience in a communications or related environment
+ Good understanding of the church and its networks
+ Good understanding of and commitment to social justice issues
The position offers a competitive remuneration package.
