HIS HOLINESS BRAHMA SRI SIVA SUBRAMONIA GURU SWAMIGAL
10 MAY 1910 - 5 MAY 1953
Today, 5 May 2026, we commemorate the attainment of Maha Samadhi by our beloved master and founder His Holiness Brahma Sri Siva Subramonia Guru Swamigal.
A master whose life was his message, Guru Swamigal walked among the people with a rare compassion, dedicated to the upliftment of humanity.
In a time of deep social struggle in the 1930s, he stepped into the streets of Durban, carrying a lantern in his hands and truth in his heart.
The Guru Swamigal and his disciples stood at street corners and bus ranks spreading divine wisdom to reaffirm a religious self identity that was being eroded from society due to the social ills of the time.
Through divine grace and boundless foresight, he founded the Saiva Sithantha Sungum - Universal Mission in 1937โplanting a seed that would grow into a spiritual force serving multiple generations.
His mission was clear: to awaken, to heal, and to unite.
He was a yogic master, having been buried alive in Curries Fountain Sports Ground in 1949 for an hour to demonstrate the art and essence of pranayama.
He established Tamil schools to promote vernacular education and stood firmly against discrimination along the lines of race, religion, caste and gender.
He was a rare soul, filled with love and compassion. He was wise and determined. He was a poet and a musician. He lead a spiritual renaissance that saved countless lives. How blessed the world was to have his feet walk its surface and for his wisdom to find resonance.
We carry our beloved master in our hearts, seeking guidance and wisdom from him. We work to further his mission and we strive to uphold his legacy.
We remember our master with deep reverence and gratitude. His teachings remain relevant, his example enduring, and his presence felt in the continued work of the Saiva Sithantha Sungum - Universal Mission he established.
Aum Gurudeva Nin PonMozhigal Vazhga Vazhga Vazhga!
