This Sunday, 6 September, is the first Sunday of the month, which means Observatory Community Hall isn't available to us and there's no service.

But church was never meant to be a building we go to. It's a people we get to be, everywhere we go.

So this Sunday, take a moment to sit with the Lord and ask Him how you can BE church. Maybe:
🍲 Join a soup kitchen and serve those who often go unseen
β›ͺ Visit another church's service and pray a blessing over them
🀝 Meet up with your small group for a proper, unhurried check in over a meal

Wherever you land, go carrying His presence with you. Grateful for a family who knows that being the church is just as sacred as gathering as the church. 🧑

This Sunday, Melusi brought some props as part of his sermon, relating a testimony in his personal life to the church of Philadelphia. 🎨

Philadelphia was a city that never stayed standing, constantly rebuilding after earthquakes, even changing its name more than once. Into that instability, Jesus speaks: "I am the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut." He commends this small church for keeping His word, not denying His name, and enduring patiently, then promises them an open door no one can shut.

Melusi shared how he saw that same kind of door open in his own life this year on UCT campus. It started with God simply telling him to sit and observe, and eventually gave him a vision of himself painting on campus, an easel and canvas becoming the very thing that drew people in and opened conversations about the gospel.

What Jesus calls this church to next is where the message really lands.

🌍 CONVERGENCE 2026 | THE TIME IS NOW

This October, Shofar congregations from across the world will gather for a powerful time of worship, inspiration, equipping and vision.

God has called each of us to reach the nations and wherever you are, that place is a mission field. Your workplace, your campus, your neighbourhood, your everyday life.

We believe this is a time for divine acceleration, mobilisation and fresh anointing for God’s purposes.

The hand of God is a hand of healing, restoration and second chances. πŸ™Œ

Sardis had it all. Wealth. History. A reputation as the greatest city in the region, perched on cliffs so steep it seemed untouchable. Yet it fell because a city convinced of its own strength stopped watching.

That's the backdrop Rebekah unpacked this week as we reached letter five in our journey through Revelation's seven churches. And Jesus's diagnosis of the church there cuts just as sharp as the city's history: "You have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead" (Revelation 3:1). No scandal named. No compromise listed. Just the terrifying gap between looking alive and actually being alive in Him.

Rebekah connected it straight to Jesus's warning in Matthew 7, people doing mighty works in His name, and still hearing, "I never knew you." Then she got honest about where she's found herself in that very tension. πŸ”₯

This is a hard word, but it isn't a hopeless one, Jesus still calls Sardis to wake up. Hear the full message and the prescription He gives, on YouTube or Spotify: search Shofar Cape Town South.

As we reflect back on the Global Prayer & Fast that happened the weekend of 24–26 July, we are grateful for a community that seeks the Lord together. As a church, we set aside three days to fast, laying down what's comfortable to press into what's eternal.

We had 24/7 prayer and worship running from the Friday into the Saturday, pressing in around the clock, with the whole congregation coming and going at different hours of the day and night, all seeking His face as one house.

This is what we contended for:
πŸ”₯ Multiplication in every corner of the Shofar family β€” Acts 9:31

To everyone who showed up and sought Him with us, thank you. What was sown in that room, He will multiply.

When the supernatural becomes normal.

Sunday, 09:30 | Observatory Community Centre Hall

There's a version of Christianity that fits neatly into an hour on a Sunday and then there's the kind Jesus actually lived. The kind where the Kingdom breaks into ordinary moments. Where healing, breakthrough, and the presence of God aren't reserved for "special" days, but become the normal rhythm of everyday life.

This Sunday, Mariette Loubser joins us to unpack exactly that, what it looks like when the supernatural stops being the exception and starts being who we are as God's family. Our Kids Band will lead us into worship, reminding us that this isn't just for the mature or the "spiritually gifted", it's for every generation, every nation, every one of us who calls Jesus Lord.

Come hungry. Come expectant. Bring a friend.

We can't wait to worship with you.
