🌳✨ Elder Tree Lore ✨🌳

Few trees are surrounded by as much folklore and mystery as the Elder.

For centuries, the Elder Tree was regarded as a sacred guardian, standing watch over homes, thresholds and the people who live nearby. In many traditions, it was believed that a powerful spirit, often called the Elder Mother, dwelt within the tree.

Because of this, people treated the Elder with great respect.

🌿 It was considered polite to ask permission before cutting branches.

🌿 Offerings of water, milk, honey, flowers or simple word of thanks were then left beneath the tree.

🌿 Taking only what was needed was seen as a sign of gratitude and wisdom.

🌿 In many folk traditions, Elder wood was never burned, as it was believed to carry the spirit and protection of the fae.

The Elder was often seen as:

✨ Protector of the home
✨ Guardian of the threshold
✨ Keeper of ancient wisdom
✨ Bridge between worlds

Whether you believe the old stories or simply admire the beauty of the tree, the Elder reminds us of something our ancestors understood well:

Nature gives freely, but respect should always be returned.

✨ There is a little witch in all of us ✨

This year marks a significant milestone for The First Church of Wiccan Culture in South Africa as we celebrate three years since our official registration. This anniversary is more than a commemoration of a legal achievement; it is a celebration of a vibrant spiritual community that has continued to grow, inspire, and serve with dedication and integrity.

Over the past three years, our Church has worked tirelessly to promote understanding of Wiccan culture and spirituality, fostering an inclusive environment where individuals from all walks of life can explore their spiritual paths with dignity and respect. Through education, community outreach, sacred celebrations, and advocacy for religious freedom, we have strengthened our presence and contributed positively to South Africa’s rich tapestry of faith traditions.

This journey has been made possible through the commitment of our clergy, members, supporters, and friends who have shared their time, wisdom, and passion. Together, we have built a foundation rooted in respect for nature, personal responsibility, spiritual growth, and community service.

As we reflect on the achievements of the past three years, we also look toward the future with hope and determination. We remain committed to expanding our educational initiatives, strengthening our community connections, and continuing to provide a welcoming spiritual home for all who seek it.
