1 John 5:13-21

Do you know that you have eternal life? Not hope so. Not maybe. Know.

That’s exactly why John wrote these words, so that believers could walk in confidence, not doubt. If you’ve placed your faith in Jesus, eternal life isn’t a distant dream. It’s a present reality.

And it doesn’t stop there. Because of that assurance, we can also approach God boldly in prayer. He hears us. Not sometimes. Not when we have it all together. He hears us. What an incredible gift.

John also reminds us of three powerful truths we can stand on:
We are protected: the evil one cannot touch those who belong to God.
We are God’s children: not strangers, not outsiders. His.
We have understanding: Jesus came so we could truly know the Father.

In a world that offers countless counterfeits; success, comfort, status, approval. John’s final warning is simple and direct:

“Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” — 1 John 5:21

1 John 4:7-12

“God is love.” Three simple words that change everything.

John reminds us today that love isn’t just something God does; it’s who He is. And the greatest proof? He sent His Son for us, not because we earned it, but purely out of grace.

That kind of love is humbling. It’s also our calling.

We can’t physically see God; but when we choose to love one another genuinely and sacrificially, His presence becomes visible through us. We become a reflection of Him to the world around us.

So today, ask yourself: Who in my life needs to see God’s love through me?

It might be a kind word, a phone call, showing up for someone, or simply choosing patience over frustration. Love in action is never small.

“Since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.” — 1 John 4:11

Psalm 97

The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice;
let the many coastlands be glad!
Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;
righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
Fire goes before him,
and consumes his adversaries on every side.
His lightnings light up the world;
the earth sees and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of all the earth.

Scripture gives us a remarkable image: a God who comforts “as a mother comforts her child” (Isaiah 66:13). The love we celebrate today reflects something holy; woven into the very character of God. We honor all who have mothered; by birth, by love, by choice, or by grace. And we hold gently those for whom today is tender.

God of Life and Love, bless all who nurture and care for others. May we reflect your grace in all we do. Amen.

Clap your hands, all peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy. —Psalm 47

It’s a call to celebrate the God who reigns over everything. What we love about this psalm is its big, open arms. This isn’t just a song for one group of people, it’s an invitation to everyone to join in worship.
So let us finish this week by clapping our hands, lifting our voices, and remembering who’s on the throne!

Dear God,

Thank you for the many blessings you have so generously placed in our lives. We lift up all who are in need of your care; those searching for answers, those feeling lost or overwhelmed, and those carrying quiet burdens. Draw close to them, surround them with your peace, and remind them they are never alone.

Help us to be gentle reflections of your love, showing kindness, offering support, and bringing light wherever we can. When the world feels heavy, center our hearts in you and fill us again with hope.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Psalm 23

Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Gracious and Almighty God,

You alone are worthy of our praise. In a world that often elevates status, self, and spectacle, ground us again in Your truth. Teach us humility where there is pride, wisdom where there is confusion, and grace where there is division.

Help us to remember that every person is made in Your image, not to be exalted above others, but to serve with compassion, justice, and love. Guide our leaders, shape our hearts, and keep us rooted in what is good and faithful.

May we be a people who reflect Christ not in power, but in service.

Amen.
