What a wonderful day of service in South Texas on October 17! Zion Lutheran Church in Alamo, TX, home of LBW Ministry Production Center #327, welcomed 15 students and 13 adults from three Lutheran churches across the Rio Grande Valley for a special LBW servant event.

Students helped press and bind Braille Bibles, learned about the history of Braille and LBW, explored John 3:16 in Braille, and experienced using solar-powered audio players without relying on sight. What a blessing to see young people putting their faith into action!

A heartfelt thank you to Candace Marquis, the volunteers at Ministry Production Center #327, and everyone who made this special day possible!

October is Blindness Awareness Month, a time to recognize the experiences, achievements, and contributions of people who are blind or visually impaired.

At Lutheran Braille Workers, we believe that everyone deserves access to God's Word. Through Braille, Specialized Large Print, and Audio Scripture, we're helping remove barriers so that people who are blind or visually impaired can read, hear, and share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

This month and every month, we celebrate the gifts, independence, and faith of those we are blessed to serve.

Thank you Trenton-area LCMS Partners in Mission congregations for their beautiful joint Reformation Evening Prayer service on Sunday, Oct. 25, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 2730 Princeton Pike in Lawrenceville NJ celebrating LBW’s mission to make God’s Word accessible to blind and low vision persons.

The afternoon included a beautiful evening prayer service with festival choir and instruments, a beautiful message on the Reformation, an offering for the production and distribution of braille, large, print, and audio Bibles, and other Christian resources, and an opportunity at the potluck afterwards to share more about the ministry of Lutheran Braille Workers.

President Hartwell recently shared a Large Print copy of Favorite Hymns with a friend he was visiting. Although she didn’t necessarily need large print, she began to flip through the pages and the words jumped off the pages and tears welled up in her eyes as she remembered stories related to the hymns in the book.

She started to give it back to President Hartwell but he said, “No that’s our gift to you. If you’re feeling down and need a quick pick me up from the Lord, it’s there for you. “

She then quickly asked how the books are used. President Hartwell shared that some churches use it at services or at Bible studies for seniors or for those with low vision, in nursing homes or sometimes for individuals just as a devotional companion for challenging days. People pick them up and hum along to the lyrics of "Just as I am" or “The Old Rugged Cross” and many more favorites.

Sometimes, the familiar words of a beloved hymn are just what we need to remind us of God’s enduring promises.

Sharing the mission of Lutheran Braille Workers beyond our Ministry Production Centers!

Recently, Shirley Alexander, a Ministry Production Center leader from MPC #163 in Giddings, Texas, traveled nearly 100 miles to share the ministry of Lutheran Braille Workers at an LWML Zone Rally.

Shirley introduced attendees to LBW’s mission of sharing God’s Word with people who are blind or visually impaired, displayed samples of our Braille and Specialized Large Print materials, and shared ways congregations and individuals can become involved.

The presentation and display were well received, and we are grateful for the opportunity to introduce this ministry to a new group of LWML women. Perhaps Shirley’s visit will even inspire another congregation to consider opening a Ministry Production Center of its own!

Thank you, Shirley, for your dedication to LBW and your willingness to share this ministry with others. We are grateful for faithful volunteers like you who help spread God’s Word and open doors to new opportunities for service!

We are grateful for the continued generosity and friendship of the Yucaipa Valley Lions Club!

Lutheran Braille Workers was honored to I participate in the Lions Club’s Celebration of Giving, an event that brings local organizations together to share their missions and the ways they serve our community.

LBW’s Cynthia Keh had the opportunity to share how our ministry brings God’s Word to people who are blind or visually impaired through Braille, Specialized Large Print, and Audio materials.

During the event, LBW received a Certificate of Appreciation and a generous donation in support of our ministry. The Yucaipa Valley Lions Club has faithfully supported LBW since 2019, and we are thankful for their ongoing commitment to helping us share God’s Word with people who are blind or visually impaired.
