When Our Needs Become Our Idols

Scripture: Acts 12:20 (CSB)
"Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. Together they presented themselves before him."

Reflection:
When fear, uncertainty, or desperation takes hold, it's easy to place our hope in people who promise solutions. But no earthly leader can provide the security that only God gives. We can care about the issues affecting our lives without allowing those concerns to become greater than our trust in the Lord.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have placed my hope in people rather than You. Help me recognize when fear or desperation begins to influence my devotion. Remind me that You are my provider and that my security rests in Your hands. In Jesus' name, amen.

Our hope was never meant to rest in a donkey or an elephant. Our hope belongs to the Lion and the Lamb! 🦁✝️

We can vote, support, and respect our leaders, but only Jesus died for our sins, conquered the grave, and offers us eternal life.

🔗 The power of prayer! 🙏

Did you know our kids are learning the same Scripture lessons that Pastor Matthew Castillo is preaching on Sundays?

This week, our kids explored Acts 12:1-19 and learned about Peter’s miraculous escape from prison! While Peter was in chains, the church was praying earnestly for him, and God answered their prayers in an incredible way!

Our kids made prayer chains as a reminder that prayer is powerful and nothing is impossible for God! ❤️

Trusting God with the Outcome

Scripture: Acts 12:5 (CSB)
"So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was praying fervently to God for him."

Reflection:
Faith does not mean God will always answer our prayers the way we want. In Acts 12, James was killed while Peter was miraculously delivered. The same God was present in both situations. Sometimes God delivers us from our circumstances, and sometimes He carries us through them. True faith means trusting God's power and goodness even when we cannot understand His plan. Whatever you are facing today, remember that God's faithfulness is not determined by your circumstances.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me trust You even when life does not unfold the way I hoped. Strengthen my faith to believe in Your goodness regardless of the outcome. Remind me that You are always present and always faithful. In Jesus' name, amen.

Do we truly believe God is able to do what we're asking Him to do? 🙏

Sometimes we pray with faith, yet find ourselves surprised when God answers. The question isn't whether God will answer the way we hope, but whether we believe He can.

Pray boldly. Trust His power. Trust His timing.

Scripture: Acts 1:8 (CSB)
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Reflection:
The same Holy Spirit who unites believers also empowers us to share the gospel with others. God has placed us in communities where people need encouragement, support, and the hope found in Jesus Christ. For our church, that includes York Haven and the surrounding communities. Ministry does not always require a special event or organized program. Sometimes it begins with a conversation, a shared meal, or a simple act of kindness. God is not only looking for our ability but also our availability. We are called to step outside the church walls and serve the people God has placed around us.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for placing me in a community where I can share Your love. Open my eyes to the people around me who need to experience Your grace. Give me boldness through the Holy Spirit to serve, build relationships, and share the gospel. Make me available for whatever You are calling me to do. In Jesus' name, amen.
