Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church Christ Centered: Lives, Relationships, Missions

We naturally gravitate toward what is easy, comfortable, and enjoyable.

But Jesus calls us to something more.

Following Him may mean denying ourselves, carrying our cross, and choosing faithfulness when the easier option is right in front of us. Yet the hard things we’re tempted to avoid may be the very path through which we discover a deeper and lasting joy.

Are you choosing what is easiest or what leads you closer to true satisfaction in Christ?

We live in a world that tells us what it means to be “blessed.”

More money. More comfort. More success. More likes. More approval.

But Jesus flips the whole thing upside down.

What the world considers valuable can pale in comparison to the treasure of knowing Christ. His Kingdom operates by a different set of values—one that challenges us to look beyond what everyone else is chasing.

If you had to measure your life by what you treasure most, what would it reveal?

The joy that is coming can change your today.

Jesus calls us to rejoice and leap for joy in the middle of hardship because our hope isn’t limited to what we see right now. There is a future reward so great that it can fill the present with joy.

This is the kind of joy that doesn’t rise and fall with our circumstances. It is a joy anchored in the hope of Christ.

What would change in your life if your future hope became your present joy?

What if the life Jesus calls us to pursue looks nothing like the life the world tells us will make us blessed?

Jesus embraced humility, sacrifice, poverty, rejection, and the cross. Yet through His humiliation came ultimate exaltation. He is the King of kings, Lord of lords, and our pioneer in the faith.

The question isn't whether we will pursue blessing. We all will.

The question is: where will we seek it?

One of the most dangerous kinds of temptation is the kind that sounds biblical.

In Luke 4, the devil tempts Jesus by quoting Psalm 91. He uses Scripture, but he doesn’t use it rightly. Instead of using God’s Word to follow God’s way, he distorts God’s Word to justify another way.

Just because someone can quote the Bible doesn’t mean they’re using it faithfully.

We aren’t called to make Scripture fit what we want. We’re called to know God’s Word, understand it rightly, and allow it to shape the way we live.

Why should we memorize Scripture? It’s not simply so we can recite it. It’s so we can use it.

Temptation rarely presents itself looking like death. It looks good. It looks satisfying. It looks like something we want. Our own flesh can make the wrong way look like life.

That’s when we need truth already planted in our hearts. Truth that reminds us which way actually leads to life. Know the Bible, memorize it, and use it.
