Montessori‑based catechesis is flourishing across the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, and the Seeds of Faith – Faith Formation Endowment is helping make this renewal possible.

At Pax Christi Church in Rochester, parishioners are being formed as catechists through a thriving weekend training model that removes barriers for working adults. Seeds of Faith funding has helped provide materials, meals, and tuition support so more people can experience this beautiful, hands‑on way of helping children encounter Jesus.

At the same time, local Rolling Stone, MN catechist, Rebecca Gust, is preparing to become a certified CGS Formation Leader — something our diocese has needed for years. A Seeds of Faith grant is helping her complete the multi‑year training required to serve parishes across Southern Minnesota.

Together, these efforts are strengthening youth ministries, equipping formators, and renewing catechesis in our diocese.

In October 2025, Diane Larson, Liturgy Coordinator and Adult Faith Formation Director at St. John Vianney Church in Fairmont, MN attended the Good News Conference in Orlando, FL, and that experience has been prayerfully and purposefully put to use.

The conference itself was described as a profound experience of spiritual and professional renewal, deepened by powerful testimonies of God’s grace, mercy, and hope.

Sacred art was also experienced at the conference, such as Timothy Schmalz’s Stations of the Cross, and it helped inspire a renewed appreciation for beauty in evangelization and faith.

We are thankful that these graces are now being shared with the parish community through this outreach. And are honored to support this work, seeing the fruits of the Seeds of Faith, Faith Formation grant continuing to grow. May God bless this ministry and all it touches.

More than 30 young people from across Wabasha County came together in March for a powerful Confirmation retreat at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, West Albany, MN. This day was supported by a Seeds of Faith – Faith Formation Endowment grant supporting food and materials.

Students from Wabasha, Kellogg, Plainview, Conception, West Albany, Lake City, and Mazeppa began the day with Sunday Mass before diving into talks led by the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's retreat team. Together, they explored what it means to “glorify the Lord by your life” through their vocations as sons and daughters of God, brothers and sisters to one another, and future spouses, parents, or spiritual leaders.

The parish ladies of St. Patrick’s provided a warm, home‑cooked lunch, and the afternoon offered some of the retreat’s most meaningful moments: adoration, benediction, confessions, praise and worship, and a reflection on Eucharistic adoration from Fr. The Hoang. Fr. Tom Loomis, Fr. Shawn Haremza, and Dcn. Paul Tschann also joined the day, offering the sacraments and sharing first‑class relics with the students.

As the retreat concluded, students brought everything they had learned to prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, asking the Holy Spirit to guide them as they prepare for Confirmation.

This retreat is a beautiful example of what Seeds of Faith makes possible — supporting parishes, strengthening formation, and helping young disciples grow in their love for Christ. Praise God!

In May at St. Adrian, St. Anthony, OLGC Parish and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, we gathered with parish and cemetery leaders across the diocese to talk about stewardship, investing, and long‑term parish health. One topic sparked the most energy: generational giving. With insights from philanthropy expert Kim Snyder, we explored how Millennials, Gen X, Boomers, and the Silent Generation each give differently—and what that means for parish communication and stewardship today. Read the full breakdown and practical steps your parish can take in our recent article.

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary — a beautiful reminder of joyful service, faithful friendship, and bringing Christ to others.

When Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth, she carried Jesus in her heart and brought hope, peace, and joy into Elizabeth’s home. In the same way, we are all called to go out in love, serve with humility, and share the presence of Christ with those around us.

May the example of Our Blessed Mother inspire us to say “yes” to God each day and to be a source of encouragement and compassion for our neighbors.

Holy Mary, pray for us.

Through the Seeds of Faith – Faith Formation Grant, we were blessed to support SEEK2026 transportation for students from the St. Thomas More Catholic Newman Center - Catholic Mavs in Mankato, MN and St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center in Winona, MN attending the conference in Columbus, OH.

Throughout SEEK2026, students encountered Christ through daily Mass, prayer, fellowship, and dynamic speakers who inspired them to deepen their faith.

As a result, 76 students from the Mankato campus and 20 students from the Winona campus participated in this transformative five-day conference alongside more than 16,000 Catholics from across the country.

Since returning to campus, ministry leaders have already witnessed renewed energy among students: a stronger desire to grow in relationship with Jesus and to share their faith with others.

We are grateful for the continued partnership of all who support the Seeds of Faith – Faith Formation Grant and make these life-changing encounters possible.

St. Joseph’s Family Camp, a beautiful diocesan day designed especially for families who have a son or daughter living with a disability. This Camp Day offers a welcoming, fully accessible environment with Sunday Mass, adaptive activities like the zipline and tractor pull, family faith formation, and plenty of time for fun and connection at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch in Stewartville.

It’s a joyful opportunity for families to pray, play, and grow together in a supportive Catholic community. We’re grateful to help sponsor and I hope to see you and you and your family there. I know firsthand that living with and caring for a loved one with a disability is a lot - you deserve the rest, fun and rejuvenation. --Elizabeth, Exec Director
