WHY DOING THE RIGHT THING CAN STILL HURT
Doing what God asked can still leave us discouraged. We come to Christ, stretch out of our comfort zone, and say yes to doing something for God. Then the suffering comes, and it catches many believers by surprise.
Maybe you've been praying for a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or a coworker to come to Christ. You've prayed for them for some time, and you see no evidence of life change.
When's the last time you prayed for the name you wrote down and dropped in a prayer box at church? God called you to pray for someone far from Him.
Some of us said yes to serving, like greeting guests or teaching kids. Now the joy is gone, it doesn't feel the way we thought it would, and we're starting to think about stepping away.
Others said yes to being a mom or a dad. Between middle-of-the-night feedings, diaper changes, and the teenage years, we keep thinking it's got to get easier. No, it gets harder.
We lose heart sometimes, not because we've sinned. Far from it. We lose heart because we obeyed God, and it doesn't look like what we thought it would.
Losing heart in God's calling is a particular kind of discouragement, and it's real for many believers. God called you to pray, to serve, and to parent. Have you lost heart?
