Happy Labor Day to all!!

Reminder: Our church office will be closed today!

Labor Day prayer:

O God of Labor and God of Rest, we turn to you this Labor Day. We remember that you bring people out of slavery and call us to rest. We remember that you call those in power to compensate workers well and to give them rest.

Bless those whose labors bring us comfort – bless farm workers and factory workers, bless delivery drivers and bus drivers; bless sanitation crews and restaurant workers.

Bless those whose labors keep us well – bless nurses and firefighters, bless hospital custodians and therapists, bless pharmacy techs and EMTs.

Bless those whose labors are unseen.

Bless those for whom one job is not enough to live.

Bless those whose labor is care for children, elders, and people with disabilities – whether paid or unpaid.

Bless those who do their work with diligence and compassion. Bless those who do their work just to get by.

On this Labor Day, O God, draw our attention to the labors around us. Open our hearts to the workers around us. Open our minds to the power we hold: to join together, to do right by those in our employ, to speak up. Remind us that we are accountable to one another and to You.

We’re taking church outside! 🌿☀️ Join us Sunday, September 13th at 10:00 AM for a special Outdoor Worship Service at First Presbyterian Church!

Bring the whole family—and bring your furry friends, too! 🐶🐱 We’ll celebrate our community with a special Animal Blessing as we give thanks for the joy, companionship, and love our animals bring into our lives.

And with school back in session, we’ll also have a special Backpack Blessing! 🎒📚 Bring your backpacks, school bags, or briefcases as we pray for students, teachers, and everyone beginning a new school year.

We’re kicking off a new season of Wednesday Night Live with an evening of BINGO, fellowship, laughter, and fun for the whole family! ❤️

First Presbyterian Church of Willmar is seeking a detail-oriented, trustworthy, and organized Financial Secretary to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of our church. This part-time, salaried position (up to 12 hours per week) plays an essential role in supporting the ministry of the congregation by ensuring accurate financial records, timely payroll, and confidential stewardship records. Successful candidates will have experience with bookkeeping or accounting and will have proficiency with computerized accounting and reporting. Experience with nonprofit or church accounting is preferred, but not required. To Apply: Please submit a resume and cover letter to [email protected] by September 21, 2026.

Responsibilities
-Keep general ledger up to date for the month/year.
-Keep checkbook(s) in balance at all times.
-Receive and verify all bills for payment and make payments in a timely fashion. A voucher system is in place and should be maintained as much as possible. Sometimes info is provided without a voucher but data should be noted in some means.
-Prepare financial statement each month for the Session.
-Prepare payroll biweekly and monthly.
-Prepare required reports for payroll, state and federal taxes, and workers’ compensation.
-Primary responsibility for signing checks. The treasurer has secondary responsibility for signing checks.
-Assist treasurer in making periodic reports to the congregation.
-Count the offering and maintain individual records of all donations by members and friends of the church.
-Record member pledges, and work in collaboration with the Treasurer and Budget & Stewardship Committee to project income/expenses for the annual budget.
-Prepare and distribute reports to donors on a semi-annual basis.
-Make appropriate transfers among investment funds and investments.
-Administer the employee flex fund.
-Administer investments and prepare journal entries for distributions.
-Maintain appropriate updates with the Board of Pensions, in collaboration with the Pastor(s).
