Jesus Prays For Unity

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” John‬ ‭17‬:‭20‬-‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus' prayer for believers "that all of them may be one" shows that unity among believers was one of His highest priorities. Unity is a powerful testimony to the world about God's transforming love. Our unity shows to skeptics that God's power can truly transform human relationships. Reflect oneness in Christ in every relationship and interaction. God calls us to!

Unity

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭133‬:‭1‬ ‭KJV

Unity is the supernatural bond that connects believers together through their shared life in Christ. It testifies to the world about the reality of God's transforming power and the authenticity of our faith. Unity creates an atmosphere where God's blessings flow. Genuine unity brings life to the community of faith.

Loving God

A life that loves God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength is a life fully surrendered. That leads to a life fully fulfilled. Will we love God perfectly all of the time? No. But every day will be an opportunity to lay our life before Him again. A life fully surrendered is fulfilling because we were created to live fully and faithfully. The abundant life He has for us is marked by a relationship with Him. True love that goes both ways. Surrender to the Lord daily. Trust His way is better. Let your life reflect a deep, surrendered love that brings Him glory.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Loving God With Our Strength

Loving God with our strength means that we love Him with our actions. It means we give Him our time, our energy, our body, our gifts, and our resources to honor Him fully. Our work, our responsibilities, our daily routines can become sacred when they are surrendered to God. Use your strength for His glory. Let everything you do reflect His love.

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭58‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Loving God With Your Mind

Loving God with your mind means inviting Him into your thoughts, your understanding, and the way you see the world. It is not just knowing about God intellectually; it is about thinking in alignment with God's truth. God offers us a renewing in our minds. He offers a transformation in our thoughts. As we grow in understanding of who God is through His Word, our love for Him deepens. To know God is to love Him. Be firmly fixed on the truth of who God is, and who we know Him to be.

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We Are Already Someone in Christ

Our soul is our very being. It's our identity, our life. To love God with all our soul means anchoring our identity in Him. Many of us have tried to find our worth in things that don't last. This is why it is so critical that we place our identity in Christ and not things of this world. When we love God with our soul, we stop trying to "become someone." We start living from who we already are in Him.

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“My soul, wait thou only upon God; For my expectation is from him.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭62‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Align Your Heart With God

According to Scripture, the heart isn't just about feelings. The heart is the center of our desires, motivations, and will. To love God with all your heart means asking, "Do I want what God wants?" When things take God's place and become our affections, they can quickly become distractions. When our heart is aligned with God, our desires change. What He loves, we begin to love. What He values, we begin to value. When we love God with all of our heart, He molds our desires into something better than we could've imagined. Our desires conform to the abundant life He has promised for us.

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Delight thyself also in the LORD; And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Psalm‬ ‭37‬:‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Loving God Wholeheartedly

When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment, He said to love God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength in Mark 12:30. It is a call to love God with every part of who you are. So often, we try to give God pieces of our lives. Jesus invites us into something deeper. God doesn't just want part of you; He wants all of you. Love God above all else!

“and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭12‬:‭30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“and thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Two Dangers

When it comes to the assurance of salvation, the Scriptures warn against two things: false assurance and endless insecurity. The first is false assurance: "I prayed a prayer once, so it doesn't matter how I live now." Scripture does not support that lazy conclusion. The same Bible that gives us wonderful promises of security also calls us to examination, obedience, perseverance, and growth. A life of stubborn, unrepentant sin contradicts any claim to know Christ.
The second is endless insecurity: "I struggle, so I can never know whether I am saved." That completely ignores 1 John 5:13, John 10:28, and Romans 8:1. God clearly intends for His children to live with a settled confidence in Christ. True believers do struggle with sin, doubt, and weakness, but our salvation rests on Jesus' completed work on the cross, not on sinless performance. Eternal life is found in Jesus. “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭KJV‬‬) If someone has never truly repented and believed, there is no real basis for assurance. The answer is to come to Jesus in genuine repentance and faith. Jesus saves!

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” 1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.” John‬ ‭10‬:‭27‬-‭29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Evidence of God's Grace

The assurance of salvation rests first on God's promise and Christ's finished work. Then, it is confirmed by the evidence of God's work in a believer's life through the power of the Holy Spirit in us. “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬) Paul is urging honest self-examination because false assurance is possible. “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.” (1 John‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬ ‭KJV‬‬) The one who claims to know Christ but lives in persistent rebellion is lying. “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.” (1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭14‬ ‭KJV‬‬) Love for fellow believers is not the root of salvation but a fruit of it. "A tree is not alive because it bears fruit; it bears fruit because it is alive." What are the evidences of God's grace in your life?

“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬-‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“For ye have not received the spirit of bo***ge again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬
