Update 8/9/2026:
On this day of rest, we want to give thanks to God for continuing to see us through difficult times; for bringing us new friends and reminding us of old friends near and far who show up in our time of need; for feeling so much love and support from so, so many (too many to possibly thank here); and most of all for the continued prayers and support that are still so needed and will continue to be needed for the foreseeable future.
In the early days of this natural disaster, we worked to provide safety, health, and care for Lewis County. Now almost three weeks after the flood, this continues to be a focus, but we must also look ahead and plan for a future that involves restoration, short and long-term support for our community.
St. Patrick Parish; like so many other churches, civic groups and agencies; has become a connection point between those in need and those who can fulfill the need. Likewise, our gymnasium has always been a community resource, one that is needed now more than ever. While we will no longer be distributing supplies directly from our gymnasium to allow us to prepare for school and community use, we will continue to be this connection point for those in need.
• We will continue to perform the corporal works of mercy and support efforts to feed, cloth, house and transport those in need, as well as provide emotional and spiritual support.
• We will still be accepting donations but will move the distribution of basic care and cleaning supplies out to other access points within the county.
• We will continue to accept and distribute larger items, such as appliances, furniture, building supplies, electrical systems, HVAC units/supplies and vehicles. As they are obtained, we will distribute them according to need and lists. So, if we have been to your home, you have stopped by our gymnasium or talked to us on the phone and placed your information on a list of needed items, please know, we plan to continue the efforts to get you those very needed items and resources.
• We will continue to work with families in need directly but will also work to connect those in need with other agencies and groups that may better meet current needs.
• We will be setting up and posting a new phone number in the next few days so we can streamline our flood relief efforts and quickly assess and meet needs.
• Once posted, feel free to call about ANY flood relief need that you may have and we will work to find a way to assist.
• You may also call to volunteer your time and talents. There are still many, many needs throughout the county.
• We are most in need of skilled laborers such as those with building and repair knowledge, contractors, masons, plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians but also in need of meal preparation, drivers, financial assistance and prayer.
• Need for items such as dehumidifiers, pressure washers, shop vacs, Window AC units are also still in high demand and can be shipped directly to St. Patrick Church 210 Center Ave. Weston, WV 26452 or taken to any of the other distribution centers across the county.
As Father Ondeck reminds us daily, “This is a marathon, not a sprint” and we at St. Patrick Church intend to complete the marathon alongside our community, coming back stronger and even more united with God and our community.
