While it can be difficult or uncomfortable, we live in the tension of upholding Church teaching on the sanctity of our bodies and the sacrament of marriage while emphasizing the dignity of every human being. During this month we urge respectful dialogue, honest reflection, and unconditional love and mercy to all.
Prayer: In the Passion narrative, we hear of Jesus washing the feet of the apostles. Take time in prayer to imagine Jesus washing the feet of someone you struggle to love…is Jesus the washing the feet of an enemy? Of someone who is experiencing same s*x attraction or gender dysphoria? Of someone of a different political party than you? Can you now imagine Jesus washing your feet? Can you imagine washing each other’s feet? Take this moment of humility and forgiveness with you to prayer.
Action: Speaking out against bullying and derogatory language, in online spaces and in our schools and work places, can help lead to a better environment for everyone. Remember that if we speak truth without love, we are but clashing cymbals…making noise without actually changing hearts.
Almsgiving: Our diocesan Marriage and Family Life office supports local chapters of Courage and EnCourage. You can learn more and support their work at https://kcsjfamily.org/courage-encourage.
