A church in the country, a home for your heart.

Is your soul a well-tended garden, or has it become a neglected plot? In Part 1 of our five-week series, “Your Soul Is a Garden, Tend It,” we explore the new life God gives through salvation and our responsibility to cultivate spiritual growth with His help. Beginning with Jesus’ teaching on being born from above, this message examines how God plants the seed of new life and equips us to tend what He has entrusted to us.

Just as a garden needs care, our spiritual lives require attention. We consider four practices of spiritual cultivation: weeding out harmful influences, nourishing our souls, remaining watchful, and establishing boundaries that protect our fellowship with God. The goal is a fruitful life that welcomes His presence and brings delight to Him.

“I want to remind you of something today that I believe someone needs to hear.

The disciples had been rowing against the storm for hours. Exhausted. Terrified. Wondering where Jesus had gone. The last thing they expected was to see Him walking toward them — not after the storm, not around it, but directly through it, on the very waves they thought would swallow them whole.

He got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased.

That is who He is.
And He has not changed.

Whatever storm you are rowing against right now, you are not out of His reach. He sees you in it. He is coming toward you in it. Have courage. Don't be afraid.”💛

“If you have a son, daughter, grandchild, spouse, or friend who has walked away from God, you know there comes a point when you realize you can’t talk them back into faith.

So instead of trying to control the outcome, bring that person before God and ask Him to do what only He can do.

You can pray, “Lord, open their eyes.” Second Corinthians 4:4 tells us that the god of this age blinds the minds of unbelievers. So ask God to help them recognize the lies they’ve believed.

You can pray, “Father, soften their heart.” Ezekiel 36:26 reminds us that God is able to give a new heart and a new spirit. You can’t force someone to want God, but God can work in places you can't reach.

You can pray, “Lord, let Your kindness draw them back.” Romans 2:4 says that God’s kindness leads us toward repentance. What opens a heart isn’t another argument. It’s experiencing the goodness and mercy of God.

You can pray, “Jesus, bring them home.” In Luke 15, the prodigal son eventually came to his senses and returned to his father. That story reminds us that no one is beyond God’s reach.

And you can pray, “Lord, put the right people in their path.” There may be someone else God wants to use, a friend, coworker, neighbor, pastor, or believer who can love them well and speak truth at exactly the right time.

If you’re praying for a prodigal today, keep loving them. Keep the door open. Keep trusting God with what you cannot control.”

“I wonder how many times we’ve genuinely meant it when we told someone we’d pray for them…

And then life happened. 👀

We got busy.
We got distracted.
And then, we completely forgot.😬

I’ve been there!🙋‍♀️

⚠️ But I think we sometimes forget just how POWERFUL prayer really is.

📖 James 5:16 reminds us that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Think about that.

We’re invited to bring someone else’s needs before the God who hears us and has the power to do what we cannot!🙌

👉 That’s not something we should take lightly.

That’s why I think there’s SO something beautiful and intentional about stopping right then and taking a moment to pray!🙏

It doesn’t have to be long or elaborate.

But sometimes the best way to make sure we follow through on our promise to pray is to actually pray before the moment passes.”🤎✝️

“Many people want the promise of heaven, but how many truly desire the presence of God?

We want eternal life, but do we seek Him while we still have breath? We want to be with Him forever, but do we make room for Him in our lives today? We want the blessings of His kingdom, but are we willing to surrender to His lordship?

God is not just a destination we hope to reach when we die. He is the Lord we are called to know, love, obey, and walk with while we live.

Following Jesus is not about being perfect or spending every moment in prayer. It’s about having a heart that desires Him, a life that is being changed by His Word, and a willingness to turn back to Him when we fall.

Don’t wait until eternity to desire the God you have neglected on earth. Seek Him now. Know His Word. Walk in obedience. Make Him more than someone you call on when life gets hard.

Because the question is not just whether you want to go to heaven. The question is: Do you truly desire the God who is there?”
