“Church hurt is real. But so is church healing. Don’t let one bad experience isolate you from the body of Christ.

I’m not going to pretend people haven’t been wounded in church. So I get it. Sometimes people have been ignored, mishandled, judged, betrayed, disappointed, or deeply hurt by people they trusted.

And if that happened to you, I’m not asking you to call it okay. Toxic church sucks. And house should be cleaned. But I would ask you not to let one painful experience convince you that isolation is the only answer.

The enemy would love to use what happened in the church to disconnect you from Jesus. People are imperfect. Pastors are imperfect. Churches are imperfect. And sometimes, unfortunately, imperfect people can do some serious damage.

But (I'm gonna all caps this) BUT...JESUS STILL LOVES HIS CHURCH.

You still need a pastor who can shepherd you, people who will pray with you, worship with you, challenge you, cry with you, encourage you, carry burdens with you, and hold you up when life gets heavy.

Healing doesn’t always mean going back to the same church, the same relationship, or the same toxic environment where you were hurt. Sometimes healing means finding a healthy church and having the courage to trust again.

I just preached this....“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together…” Hebrews 10:24–25 NIV

Don’t make Jesus pay for what people did. He loves you. He has healing for you. He has the right church (group of healthy Christ followers) for you. Don't let HURT have the final word. Let HEALING have the final say.” Josh Huffman

•Psalm 37:5–6// Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

•Isaiah 54:17- No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, declares the LORD.

•1Peter 2:23- When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

•Romans 12:19- Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’

•Psalm 34:21–22// Affliction will slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned. The LORD redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

•Matthew 5:11–12// Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.

•Psalm 120:2- Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.

•Proverbs 26:20- For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.

•1Peter 3:15–16// But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

Covered, Companioned and Secure

09/06/2026

A church in the country, a home for your heart.

What does the grace of God mean for our past, present, and future?

In “Covered, Companioned, and Secured,” we are reminded that Jesus covers our yesterdays, the Holy Spirit walks with us today, and our future rests securely in the Father’s providential care.

Through passages including 1 John 1:9, 2 Corinthians 5:17, John 14:26, Romans 8:26, Jeremiah 29:11, and John 14:2-3, this message offers hope for every season of life. In Christ, our sins can be forgiven, our regrets no longer define us, and we are made new. In the present, the Holy Spirit teaches, strengthens, and intercedes for us in our weakness. As we look toward tomorrow, we can trust God’s plans, promises, and eternal provision.

Join Brighton Congregational Church as we celebrate the faithfulness of God and discover the peace that comes from knowing our past is covered, we are never alone today, and our future is secure in Him.

“There will always be plenty wrong with the world to talk about. But Jesus called us to something greater than pointing at darkness. Love differently. Forgive freely. Speak truth. Serve people. Carry His presence wherever you go. Today, give someone a reason to see Jesus through you.”
