MSM Parental Email Update

Monday, Monday, so good to me.....

The classic song from the Mamas and the Papas from 1966 is always playing in my head on Monday mornings as I remember riding to school. My Mom would have the radio set on the Mighty 1190 AM KLIF. Those days of school memories pop up every year along with ones about football practice, cruising south main and going to lunch at The Pizza Place.

I miss taking our 3 sons to school and having some time to talk, laugh and how excited they would be when we made a stop at chick-fila. As I look back, I see we don't get much time with these kids, and they don't really belong to us. They belong to Jesus and we are to do our best to train them up as followers of God and model it in the time we have them.

Let me encourage you with this: You're Doing a Good Job. Parenting isn't easy so rest and trust in the Lord for the end result.

Great turnout for MSM Parent meeting on Sunday! If you missed out, email [email protected] and she can send all the info to you.

This Week at theMSM Wednesday we talk about Choices. What we choose defines us and makes life sometimes hard and sometimes easier, right? Our main verse for the night-

“You did not choose me, but I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.” — John 15:16

We also kick off the MSM Exclusive Milk and Cookies! Good treats for your student happening on the first Wednesday Night of each month. You can't beat the price cause its absolutely free!

Sunday we launch a new series on the book of Genesis—the book that kicks off the biblical account of God’s movement in the world. Genesis is a book of beginnings—the word Genesis literally means “beginnings.” It talks about the beginnings of the world and of man. It’s also the beginning of the story of God. It lays the groundwork to help us see and understand the rest of the Bible. Like reading any other book or watching a movie, the beginning of the Bible helps the rest of the story make sense.

Our conversation focused on Genesis 5:1-2, where we read about Adam’s descendants—and one day, one of those descendants would be Jesus. Elsewhere in Genesis, we discover some big moments in humanity’s history—and through it all, we read about how God’s love remained faithful, even when humanity wasn’t faithful to God.

Here are some conversation ideas for your teenager this week:
What's a great movie you’ve seen or a great book you’ve read? How was the beginning of the story a crucial foundation for the whole story?
Genesis is a “written account” of God’s story—in what ways has it been valuable to look back on our family’s story through words or pictures or video?
Based on what you know about the beginnings of God’s movement in the world, what do you know for sure about him?

Thanks for letting us partner with you in your teenager’s spiritual journey. Have a great week and Lets Go Fight Win.

Eric

EXTREME.....

The word for our summer so far. Extreme heat Extreme dryness and Extreme sunshine. The word Extreme is defined as reaching a very high degree, amount or intensity, or being the farthest away from the middle or center. Sounds like our planet and people, doesn't it?

Many are asking when the heat will break or when the tensions on earth will ease or when gas prices will come down. Who knows is what I always reply. You never know how things will go, what will happen, and how people will respond. What can we do?

Trust, Follow and Obey. The Master is Still on the Throne. Don't Be Afraid! It's a good word and response for parents and students to hear and practice, so take a deep breath and model it for your kids today.

We had a GREAT SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE POOL! A great crowd of kids and adults came to hang out at Mark and Teresa Julians for hamburgers and swimming, and Mark challenged our MSM kids to have a greater love for others (John 15:13) and to live that out daily. Thanks Mark and TJ for a great evening.

This Sunday we are wrapping up our “Bible 101” series, and our final conversation gave our teenagers a chance to move beyond the “intimidation factor” that Scripture holds for many of them.

We are encouraging our MSM Students to ask three specific questions when they read a passage of Scripture: How does this Scripture point me to Jesus, how does this Scripture connect to my life today, and how can this Scripture encourage another person? The first question looks upward, toward Christ. The second question looks inward toward our heart. The third question looks outward toward others. All three questions can help them read the Bible in a meaningful way.

This week, try and spend a few minutes talking with your teenager about this upcoming lesson. Here are some questions you might want to ask:
The more you know Scripture and absorb it into your life, the more it shapes who you are—give me an example of this from your life.
As you follow Jesus, how does Scripture help you travel on the right path?
Are you satisfied with how frequently you read the Bible? Why or why not?

MSM Wednesday night we are debuting the Theme of the Year: Proven!

We will discuss having Christ Like Character and ask "Where’s the Proof of God in our lives?

“My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples. As the father has loved me, I have also loved you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commands you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.” – John 15:8-11

We are excited for this year with MSM Students and are trusting the Lord with the results .

Thanks for trusting us with your student!

Lets Go Fight Win.

Hey Hey Happy School Starting Time America!

I loved the start of school growing up. Seeing friends after days away cause we didn't see them much during the summer. Shopping for school supplies, playing kickball and dodgeball at recess and the great cafeteria food (Homemade in those days). I went to Travis Elementary here in Weatherford on Water Street (West Side Of Town) and have great memories of growing up. Sure it wasn't perfect but it was the time God put together for me.

God creates/crafts our kids to be in a specific time. If you’re worried or anxious about these times trust in this: Your kids are built to be in these times and you are built to parent in these times. There are no mistakes in His timing or purpose.

I am trying something new this year, a weekly email/Social Media post so you are kept up to date on MSM Events, Sunday and Wednesday topics and other things we are doing. You may get some funny stories about me as well.

We had a great first week at MSM Sunday. We collected a survey on what is important to MSM Students, Parent Contact info and What they may want to talk about. We also had breakfast which is a weekly thing! Wednesday Night we had some fun tunes, worship and talked Jeremiah 29:13-14 and had ice cream treats.

This Sunday we will continue the Live Curriculum series “Bible 101”—it’s designed to help teenagers develop a love for Scripture. In our first week we talked about where the Bible came from and what it’s all about. This week we focused on how we know the Bible is trustworthy.

As middle schoolers enter adolescence, it’s normal for them to begin examining and questioning the things they’ve been taught. For young people raised in church, especially, this will include an examination of their faith and the ideas they’ve been taught at church, in Sunday school, and at home. Our lesson this week includes explorations into eyewitness evidence, other sources of evidence, and Jesus’ own words—all giving us confidence in the Bible’s trustworthiness.

I encourage you to keep the dialogue going at home this week. Consider building your conversation around these questions:

I heard you talked about the accuracy and reliability of the Bible at youth group this week. How did that exploration impact the way you see the Bible?

Why is it important that the Bible we have today hasn’t been changed over the centuries?

How does knowing the Bible is accurate and true impact your faith in God and as a follower

We have a list of MSM activities for the fall including Winter Camp in November at Mt Lebanon inn Cedar Hill and early details for MSM Summer Camp 2027 coming up soon. Be on the lookout.
