While the weather today does not bring thoughts of winter storms, the "burr" months are not far away. Over the next few weeks the FPC Deacons will be preparing for the October Coat Giveaway. Currently we are low on children's winter coats, however we also accept men's and women's coats of all sizes. We welcome clean, washable coats in good condition. Please no leather or wool coats. Coats can be dropped off at FPC Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The Coat Closet will open in October to the public. If you have any questions feel free to call the church office at 402.375.2669.

Sunday, August 30th FPC hosted a baby shower for the Embrace Program at Northeast Nebraska Health Department and Haven House. Jessica Scott spoke on behalf of the Embrace program and Myah Phillips spoke on behalf of Haven House. We learned about how these two agencies help women and children in our community. We had a nice crowd in attendance, played some shower games, sang and prayed and enjoyed wonderful refreshments. Through the generous donations of the congregation we offered hope and encouragement to expectant, new mothers and women who find themselves in difficult situations.

Yesterday, Myah was invited to speak at First Presbyterian Church in Wayne for their community baby shower. The members of the church came together, listened to speakers, played baby shower games, and collected an assortment of baby supplies to donate to both Haven House and the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department. Thank you for hosting such a great event and allowing us to speak at it!

FPC hosted the Wayne Salvation Army Unit Back to School Supply event on August 11th. Seventy seven students received school supplies. Funds for the event come from the annual Red Kettle Campaign. Thanks to the Wayne Kiwanis who help bag the supplies for each grade level on Monday before the event. Thanks to the Salvation Army Leadership - Marlen Chinn, Rick and Carol Ellenbecker, Georgina Bernal, Phyllis Rahn, Janie Ortega, Sarah and Patti Layman, Pastor Teresa Bartlett and volunteer Vern Kamerath for their work on the event.
