Happy Holy Thursday. This day commemorates Jesus’ last supper with his disciples, when He gave the command to love and serve one another. He demonstrated unconditional love and sacrificial service by washing his disciples’ feet. These two, love and service, are the focus of Maundy Thursday.

Tonight at Gideon, Gideon will host our 2nd annual Maundy Thursday Service at 7:00 p.m. Shiloh Baptist Church will be our guest church, Pastor Charles Ivy will be our guest preacher, and Shiloh Choir will provide music. This service is for everybody, as we prepare for Good Friday Service tomorrow, beginning at noon, at Shiloh.

Friday, The North Shore Baptist Ministers’ Alliance will present the Seven Last Words of Christ from the Cross (see the flyer for the lineup of preachers). Bro. Darrin Rose will be leading the Good Friday Choir.

Saturday at 9:00 a.m., Gideon men will share in a fellowship breakfast at Golden Corral Restaurant in Gurnee. (Free for those who signed up!)

Resurrection Sunday is a day of celebration. We will begin with Education Hour at 9:30 a.m., continue with Children In Church (CIC) leading our worship with songs and speeches at 10:45 a.m., our choir providing resurrection celebration music, and Pastor Stevenson bringing a powerful and encouraging message entitled, “I’m Living in the Power of the Resurrection.” Everyone is invited to worship to express how thankful you are for the sacrificial death of Jesus in humility and the resurrection in power, as He got up with all power in His hands saying:.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

March Gladness Series:
The Joy of Worshipping God in God’s House

Sunday March 22nd message
Philippians 4:4-7
“A Promise That’ll Keep You From Losing Your Mind”

We live in a time when anxiety has reached unprecedented levels. People are overwhelmed by stress, troubled, and internally divided by external circumstances. Anxiety comes when our emotional responses pull us towards worry, stress, and fear, while faith pulls us towards hope, toward trusting that God is working things out for our good. Anxiety is strangling us. What’s important to know is that anxiety itself is not a sin; the sin in anxiety is in dealing with it negatively through our flesh.

Philippians 4:4-7 gives us the power to deal with anxiety positively through faith. It offers not only a prohibition, a path, and the promise of divine peace but also emphasizes the importance of praise as the first step towards peace. “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice.” By praising the Lord, we shift our focus and invite His presence into our lives. God inhabits (lives in) our praise. The next step is growing in patience, demonstrating that we manage circumstances with the understanding that they are temporary and that God’s reign is eternal. “The Lord is near.” Finally, the path to peace involves prayer, specifically worship and adoration. This form of prayer seeks the immanent presence of the transcendent God. “Through prayer and supplication.” Supplication is making specific requests, even asking God to help us deal with social, economic, and political pressures. “Make your requests known to God.”

By understanding and practicing these steps, we can have peace beyond understanding that guards and keeps our minds. Don’t let anxiety cause you to lose it!

March Gladness Series: The Joy of Worshipping God in God’s House

Sunday, March 15th message
Psalm 100:1-5
“Don’t Lose Your Song”

It has always been the enemy’s desire to use circumstances in life to imprison and silence the voices of God’s people. If we don’t use our voice to praise God, the enemy wins. The key to winning over the enemy is to keep singing, preaching, and praising, even in circumstances of life.

We can keep singing when we leave our circumstances at the door and enter into God’s presence to recognize God’s character, when we know we belong to the compassionate God, and when we show that we are grateful for God’s constant faithfulness. When we recognize His character, compassion, and constancy, we stop talking about how big our circumstances are and start telling our circumstances how big our God is, admitting we have problems, but our problem solver is bigger; we have burdens, but our burden bearer is bigger; we have aches and pains, but our healer is bigger.

When we make our gratitude to God larger and louder than the complaints of our problems, we enter with thanksgiving and praise, and we enter to bless His name, using our voice to say the Lord is good (that’s His character), His mercy is everlasting (that’s His compassion), and His truth endures to all generations (and that’s His constant faithfulness). If we keep singing, we will not lose our songs of praise.
