Join us Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00 pm for a midweek Holy Eucharist with hymns to honor Frances Perkins.

The first woman in a U.S. Cabinet position and a devout Episcopalian, Perkins helped shape Social Security, the 40-hour work week, and minimum wage. Her faith was the force behind her tireless advocacy for the dignity of labor and the protection of the vulnerable.

The service will be contemplative and joyful, with prayers for social justice. Stay after for a light dinner; it’s a wonderful opportunity to continue the conversation about how we can live out the “Beloved Community” in our own neighborhood today!

For the Unity of the Church

Almighty Father, whose blessed Son before his passion prayed for his disciples that they might be one, as you and he are one: Grant that your Church, being bound together in love and obedience to you, may be united in one body by the one Spirit, that the world may believe in him whom you have sent, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Still an Augustinian monk, Pope Leo XIV visited Algeria on Monday and Tuesday, venturing into the native land of his spiritual father, St. Augustine of Hippo, now known as Annaba in Algeria which, though predominantly Muslim, still claims Augustine as one of its greatest sons.

Though the AP article doesn't name Augustine's Berber mother, we know her as St. Monica, who tirelessly loved and prayed for her son's conversion to Christianity.

Pope Leo XIV has walked in the footsteps of his spiritual father St. Augustine. He is making a pilgrimage to the archaeological ruins in Algeria where the fifth-century titan of early Christianity lived, died and wrote some of the most important works in Western thought.
