Facebook asked me what is on my mind today. The word “CHERISH” is on my mind today.

My husband and I just celebrated our 37th year of marriage. It’s not all been sunshine and unicorns because life never is. We’ve had a wonderful 37 years because even in the hard times we have cherished and valued each other. That’s a word you don’t hear a whole lot today.

What does it mean to CHERISH?

CHERISH means to hold someone or something very dear, treating them with love, affection, and appreciation. It can also mean to care for or protect something because it is deeply valued.

The word comes from an Old French word meaning “to hold dear.”

Some similar words are:

* Treasure
* Value
* Adore
* Prize
* Appreciate

I think people think it’s an old-fashioned word but I think it’s one that needs to be brought back to use.

I’m speaking mostly to married people at the moment, but it applies to all of us when it comes to relationships.

My husband is my very bestest friend in the whole wide world and yes, I did say bestest! He is beyond my BFF! we both treasure and value what we have. We appreciate what we have because we’ve worked for it. Relationships are hard but worth it! You only win in relationships when you’re both heading in the same direction. We’re not supposed to be in competition with each other but be cheerleaders, cheering each other on. We are supposed to value, respect, honor, treasure - CHERISH each other.

When you value something, you treat it with care. Relationships just like the human psyche are valuable and can be fragile. Let’s handle and treat each other with the care that we desire for ourselves.

Lord, help us to love one another. As we experience Your love, help it to overflow to others. Help us to love well and to be careful with each other‘s hearts. Teach us to cherish one another. Teach us to love as You love. In Jesus name.

I’m cheering for you all and value each and every one of you!

Vicki

Only One Life
By C. T. Studd

Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart:

Only one life, ‘twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Soon will its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in “that Day,” my Lord to meet,
And stand before His Judgment Seat;

Only one life, ‘twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, the still small voice,
Gently pleads for a better choice;
Bidding me selfish aims to leave,
And to God’s holy will to cleave.

Only one life, ‘twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Give me, Father, a purpose deep,
In joy or sorrow Thy Word to keep;
Faithful and true whate’er the strife,
Pleasing Thee in my daily life.

Only one life, ‘twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Oh let my love with fervor burn,
And from the world now let me turn;
Living for Thee, and Thee alone,
Bringing Thee pleasure on Thy throne.

Only one life, ‘twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say, “Thy will be done”;
And when at last I’ll hear the call,
I know I’ll say, “’Twas worth it all”;

Only one life, ‘twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Other than my Bible, this may be my favorite spiritual book. A friend and I are doing a book study with this book. This is not my first time reading it and yet it challenges me afresh every time I read it.

Let’s talk about the word CONSECRATION

The definition of this word is to “set yourself apart.”

What does that look like? It’s not a list of do’s and don’ts. It’s this: dethroning yourself and enthroning Jesus Christ!

It’s no longer putting the focus on yourself but putting the focus on Jesus!

Consecration is an ever deepening love for Jesus, a child-like trust in the Heavenly Father and a blind obedience to the Holy Spirit. Consecration is so much more, as Mark Batterson puts it

Concentration is going ALL IN and ALL OUT for the ALL IN ALL!
ïżŒ
Honestly, when I look back at my life, the moments I went all in for Jesus are my most favorite moments. It’s the moments that stand out to me the most. Those moments were wrapped up in peace and love while I did things scared! They were me doing the unknown and trusting Him with the reasons why and His plan. The moments I felt His presence in my life in an almost palpable way.

The moments that I find I’m not hungry for God as I am at other times are the moments I find me full of ME!

My prayer for all of us is that we make him our ALL.

This reminds me of a poem by C. T. Stud. He was a British missionary to China, India and Africa. I will post the entire poem separately, but this one line hits home

ïżŒOnly one life, ‘twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.”

Let’s not waste it by chasing ME things but by chasing hard after God.

Love y’all,

Vicki

Proverbs 14:26
“In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children will have a place of refuge.”

I read this scripture this morning. I have read it many times before, but for some reason, today it hit me differently. I have a friend whose family is going through a difficult season, and difficult times can often cause us to question God or doubt His goodness.

As I read this verse, I found myself breaking it down this way. (This is Vicki paraphrasing!)

When we’re in AWE of God, it builds strong TRUST in Him, and that trust makes Him our place of refuge.

Sometimes I think we get so beaten down by the world that we forget to stand in AWE of Him. It’s easy to focus on the devastation and difficulties of life until that’s all we see. But there is so much more to see.

Life is hard. Sometimes it can be incredibly painful. The enemy tempts us to blame God for the troubles in our lives.

My challenge to you today is this: pause and recount what He has done. Remind yourself of His blessings, His greatness, and His faithfulness. Reflect on His character and on who He is. His heart is for our good, and sometimes we need to remind ourselves of that because we have an enemy who lies to us and tells us otherwise.

Grow your AWE of Him, and your TRUST will grow. He is worthy of our awe, and He is worthy of our trust. Believe me—He is trustworthy.
