John 5:1-15

In John 5 Jesus arrives in Jerusalem during a big feast. North of the temple area, archaeologists actually found the pool called Bethesda—with five porches, just like John described. This place was famous for drawing crowds of people desperate for a miracle—blind, lame, paralyzed—everyone hoping that something amazing would happen

Many debate whether people were really healed at the Pool of Bethesda; it wouldn’t be the only time God did something surprising. The Bible’s packed with wild accounts of healing—like when a pot of stew was purified, and people were healed (2 Kings 4:38-41), or Naaman getting cured by washing in the Jordan River (2 Kings 5:10-14). Someone was even healed just by touching Elisha’s bones (2 Kings 13:20-21)! God works in ways we don’t always expect, but just because something’s unusual doesn’t mean it’s from Him.

Jesus isn't asking you to play it safe. He sets before you a narrow pathway. He is asking you to follow Him and to go and make disciples. He doesn't want you to fake it until you make it. He doesn't want your pretend to be happy when you aren't church face. He is daring you to trust Him!. Trust Him... that's all He wants! Trust Him enough to go on this adventure and take on a real step towards Him and He will be with you always.

John 4:27-38

Most people expect judgment when their worst moments are exposed. The Samaritan woman experienced something different. She experienced truth wrapped in grace. That's why she left her waterpot behind. That's why she ran back to town. That's why she couldn't stop talking
about Jesus.

Her invitation obviously worked—people came to see Jesus for themselves. When people encounter the real Jesus, they don't just receive information. They experience transformation.

When you see someone mocking Christianity, what's your first reaction? Is it to defend the faith? Win the argument? Avoid them completely?

What if Jesus sees that person differently than we do? What if the person we see as an opponent is actually someone God is pursuing?

Lost people are not the enemy. Lost people are the mission.

- The atheist isn’t the enemy.
- The addict isn’t the enemy.
- The person who attacks Christianity isn’t the enemy.

LOST PEOPLE ARE NOT THE ENEMY. LOST PEOPLE ARE THE MISSION!

During Jesus ministry, strict Jewish groups like the Pharisees sought to protect God’s law by adding a vast "hedge" of extra human regulations to ensure people did not even come
close to breaking the core commandments.

But what strict legalism did was cause division, pride, and spiritual exhaustion by replacing God's grace, with rigid, man-made rules. It shifted holiness from an inward heart transformation, to outward performance.

So there were a lot of fakers. Two faced people who pretended to be perfect and able to keep the law of Moses. However Jesus isn’t just about rules... or religion—or fake! He’s all about showing us the heart of God, in His word and inviting us into real relationship that changes everything.

Jesus provides us the freedom to admit, "I'm broken. I sin. I cannot stop. I am certainly not perfect." And that is precisely why I need Jesus.

By admitting this is the truth and looking directly at Jesus... it is the only way to be able to draw near to God and enjoy heaven with Him forever.

The big idea for the message today is one that I hope resonates:

"Be Truefaced, not Twofaced.”

John 4:1-26

Don’t be two-faced; be true-faced!

God seeks people who are real, honest, and ready for true connection. God is Spirit, and wants people who worship Him in spirit and truth—not just outwardly, but honestly and genuinely.

In His encounter with the woman at the well Jesus tells her plainly: “I who speak to you am He.” Meaning He is the Messiah.

Notice He reveals Himself not to crowds, but to her—a woman with a messy past from a people who were messy too.

That’s who Jesus is; meeting us right where we are at.

People often say, “God helps those who help themselves,” but that’s not
in the Bible. Benjamin Franklin said it. and he was as wrong then as he is now.

God’s heart is for those who can’t fix their own problems—those of us who are out of options and hope. God literally helps those who cannot help themselves is more accurate.

If you’ve felt stuck or helpless, you’re not alone and you're in good company. John 5 is an invitation for anyone feeling overlooked or powerless. It is fascinating how Jesus responds to the ones... everyone passes by.
