Today's Scripture
…being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.
Colossians 1:11, NIV

Great Endurance
When you look at the life of David, he had many mountaintop moments that we celebrate—his anointing to be the next king of Israel, defeating Goliath, becoming a national hero, conquering enemy armies. These were moments when God suddenly promoted, blessed, favored. But most of David’s life was spent in the valleys where it didn’t look like God was doing anything, times that were lonely, unfair, uncomfortable. If it wasn’t for the grace of God strengthening David with all power, he would not have had the great endurance and patience it took for him to reach the throne.

It’s easy to get discouraged when things aren’t changing as fast as we would like. We know God has put promises in our heart, then opposition shows up with a flood of trouble, heartbreak, and anxiety. Know that in that moment God is going to strengthen you with supernatural power to have great endurance. What should discourage and defeat you will give way to fresh passion and vision that will propel you into your purpose.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that Your power is at work to strengthen me in order that I can have great endurance and accomplish great things. Thank You that I can put the discouragements of the valley behind me and stir up my faith. I believe that You are pushing me forward into my purpose. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“So the Lord said, ‘I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.’ But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”

GENESIS 6:7-8

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
We’ve come to a day in which a man’s word means absolutely nothing, whether it’s a treaty between nations, a marriage contract, a business agreement, or a political speech. In Genesis 6, we read that people’s hearts were wicked continually before the Lord. And it had reached such a level that God said, “I’m sorry that I made them! I’m going to have to judge the Earth.” (See Genesis 6:6-7.) The same sins that produced the flood in Noah’s day have reached up to Heaven today.

But what did Jesus say the days of Noah were like? He said they were, “Eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage” (Matthew 24:38). They were going on with the same old routine of life. The problem in our society is that we’re standing right on the threshold of imminent judgment, but nobody seems to care. We just yawn in the face of God. In these dangerous days, we need to thank God we have His amazing grace. Genesis 6:8 says, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”

What are the signs that the world gives no thought to the things of God?
How have you received grace like Noah?
PRACTICE THIS
Take time today to journal about the process of your “finding grace in the eyes of the Lord.”

Today's Scripture
The God who summons horses and chariots and armies—they lie down and then can’t get up; they’re snuffed out like so many candles: “Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new.”
Isaiah 43:17–19, MSG

Snuffed Out
When God brought the Israelites out of Egypt and through the Red Sea, He drowned all their enemies. If He would have just brought them out, they would have always lived with the threat that Pharaoh could come find them. There would have been this lingering worry, lingering anxiety, that their enemy might still be coming. But when God snuffed out what could harm them, He freed them from the past and any fears.

You may have some lingering anxieties in the back of your mind that are always trying to remind you of what might happen if your past mistakes catch up to you, if your regrets come to light. Can I tell you that the threat has been taken care of? God has put an end to what you’re worried about. You don’t have to live afraid, anxious, or worried. He didn’t just bring you through the difficulty, but He’s drowned the guilt, the shame, the opposition. What was trying to harm you is already defeated. Jesus Christ set you free and is about to do something brand-new.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that the power of Jesus’ shed blood has secured an everlasting release from my sins. Thank You that He paid the incredible price to blot out all my sins and set me free. I declare that I am free from any lingering anxiety about my past. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“Blessed is every one who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. When you eat the labor of your hands, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.”

PSALM 128:1-2

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
You can’t do anything about your ancestors, but you can do something about your descendants. You can say, “By the grace of God, I’m going to be a godly dad, and I’m going to see my children’s children loving God, serving God, and praising God.” The need of the hour is for people who are God-fearing, hard-working, and ready to pour into the next generation.

Some of us need to look up to God in humble submission and say to Him, “Your will be done.” That’s the greatest, most wonderful thing you could do. Just look up to God and say, “Your will be done. Save me. Fill me. Use me. I want to fear You and follow You with my family. Your will be done.” That’s one category of person—those who say to God, “Your will be done.” But for others, as they slip into Hell, God will say to them, “Your will be done.” God is not willing that any should perish. If you die and go to Hell, it’s because you’ve refused the will of God and chosen your own will. Submission to God starts a chain reaction as you surrender to Him and pour into the next generation. But so does rejection of Him and His call on your life.

What are some areas where you have insisted on your own way?
What is the hardest part about submitting to God? What have you learned from submitting to God?

PRACTICE THIS
Submit to God in prayer and confess where you have insisted on your own way.

Today's Scripture
Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves].
Hebrews 4:11, AMP

The Rest of God
Today’s Scripture talks about entering into the rest of God. That means that when you have a problem, you don’t lose sleep over it, knowing that God is in control. If you get a bad medical report, you’re not worried because you know nothing can sn**ch you out of God’s hands. If you have a financial setback or lose a client, you’re not upset because you know God will supply all your needs. You stay in peace because you’re trusting Him. You’re not up when you’re circumstances are up, and you’re not down when they’re down. You’re stable and consistent. You’re in the rest of God.

Are you losing sleep over something you can’t do anything about? Are you trying to change things that only God can change? As long as you’re being your best and honoring God, you can rest. Your load will get a lot lighter if you turn that over to Him and enter into His rest. Do what you can, use your common sense, then leave it up to God. Come back to a place of peace.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You for providing a place where I can rest in Your grace and strength to fight my battles. Thank You that I can stay in peace and know that You can make things happen that I never could. I declare that I will not lose sleep over what I can’t change or do something about. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“We do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

2 CORINTHIANS 4:18

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
The Bible teaches that there is a visible material world and there is an invisible spiritual world, and these two co-exist side by side. We would be foolish to deny that there is an unseen spiritual world just because we cannot see it with our physical eyes. A blind man would be foolish to deny the radiant splendor of a sunset simply because he cannot see it.

If you were to take my great-grandfather and bring him back to this world and tell him that this room right now is full of music, sports, drama, action, automobiles crashing, and news from all over the world, he’d say, “No, that’s not true, you’re telling a lie.” But we know that it is true. If we turn on the TV, it could draw all of these images out of the air. We cannot see them right now simply because we’re not tuned in to them, but we know that they’re there. This gives us a wonderful illustration of another world in this age in which we live that our great-grandfathers did not have.

And Jesus is here now, but unless you have your antennae up and tuned into station J-E-S-U-S, you may not know it. You may say, “These people are just conjuring up things and talking about things that are not reality.” But there is more to life than what you can touch, what you can taste, what you can smell, what you can see, and what you can hear.

How have you experienced the unseen spiritual reality of the world?
How does this reality exist in support of God and in opposition to Him?
PRACTICE THIS
Spend time today reflecting on the reality of the unseen spiritual world.

Today's Scripture
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.”
John 14:12, ESV

Signs Will Follow
We’re coming into a time when God is going to show out in greater ways. There are going to be greater works done. The Scripture says, “These signs will follow them that believe.” There are going to be some signs following you—not ordinary things, not what you’ve seen in the past, not what you can do through your natural ability, but awe-inspiring deeds. God will put you in situations where you’re up against what looks impossible. The sickness will be too much, the problem too great, the dream too big. It’s easy to let fear, intimidation, and doubt talk you out of it. This is when you have to remind yourself that you were created to perform greater works.

The apostle Paul says, “You haven’t seen, heard, or imagined what God has in store for you.” Get ready. It’s coming. You have God’s favor and anointing upon you, and you are marked for greatness. He is moved by your faith, and He is going to show out in your life in unusual, uncommon ways. God is about to do something you’ve never seen.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You for the greater works that You have planned to do through me. Thank You that You created me to activate my faith and believe that I can make a difference in the world in greater ways than I’ve imagined. I declare that I refuse to let fear and unbelief hold me back. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“Therefore I urge you to take nourishment, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you.”

ACTS 27:34

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
In Acts 27:30-32, there were some sailors aboard ship with Paul during a fierce storm who said, “We’ll get in that lifeboat. We’ll get off this big ship, and we’ll escape.” These men sought a form of escapism built upon selfishness. Don’t do it! You may say, “I’ll outrun or drown out my problems.” No, they can swim. You’re the one who is going to drown.

There were others who were working, throwing everything overboard. They couldn’t see which way to go. Do you know people like that? This was a storm they’d been warned about, to begin with, and now they were facing the consequences of their actions. That’s how the godless sometimes go through storms.

But what about the godly? Paul called the men together and encouraged them. He gave a good message from God. Just as in this account, there are three classes in America: those who are afraid, those who don’t know enough to be afraid, and those who know their Bibles.

Which of these categories would you count yourself in? Why?
How can you remain encouraged and encourage others in the middle of life’s storms?

PRACTICE THIS
Encourage someone you know who is having a tough time today.
