Unforgiveness doesn’t punish them… it poisons you.

When someone hurts us, holding onto unforgiveness can feel justified. We replay what happened. We rehearse what we wish we had said. We wait for an apology that may never come.

But while they may have moved on… we’re still carrying it.

Unforgiveness can turn into:
• Resentment
• Bitterness
• Anger
• Isolation
• Distrust
• A constant need to replay the hurt
• Difficulty experiencing peace and joy

Forgiveness does not mean what happened was okay.
It doesn’t mean trust is automatically restored.
And it doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be boundaries or consequences.

Forgiveness means refusing to let yesterday’s hurt continue controlling today’s life.

Sometimes the person you need to forgive will never apologize.

Forgive anyway.

Not because they deserve access to you again… but because you deserve freedom from what happened to you.

Celebrate Recovery is a safe place to work through the hurts that are sometimes too heavy to carry alone.

What could change in your life if you finally released the hurt you’ve been holding onto?

Did you know that negative self-talk can be a hang-up?

“I’ll never be good enough.”

“I’m a failure.”

“Nothing will ever change.”

“No one could love someone like me.”

Those thoughts may feel true, but they don’t come from God.

Negative self-talk keeps us trapped in shame, fear, and hopelessness. God’s Word reminds us that our identity isn’t found in our mistakes, it’s found in Christ.

You are loved.
You are forgiven.
You are chosen.
You are not the lies you tell yourself.

Recovery begins when we replace the lies with God’s truth.

What truth from God’s Word has helped you silence negative self-talk? Share it in the comments to encourage someone today. ❤️

Free From Shame Spirals

Shame is loud. It tells us we are too much, too broken, too far gone, or too hard to love. But shame is not the voice of recovery. And it is not the voice of God.

Conviction invites growth.
Shame attacks identity.
Learning the difference matters.

When shame shows up, pause before agreeing with it.
Ask yourself:
“Is this helping me heal, or is this trying to make me hide?”

Some days freedom looks like telling your Sponsor what shame told you.
Some days it looks like replacing “I am bad” with “I am growing.”
Some days it looks like receiving grace before you feel worthy of it.

✨ Try this today:
Write down one shame statement and answer it with truth.

💬 Let’s talk:
What truth helps you step out of shame?

Join us this coming Friday!!🧡
We will have pizza, a time of fellowship, and a lesson on Forgiveness.🙏

Steps to Forgiveness 👣

Principle 6:
Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when doing so would harm them or others.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” Matthew 5:7🌿

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9🌿

Step 9: 👣
We made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that yourbrother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.” Matthew 5:23–24🌿

🙏Step 7: Humbly Asked Him

🙌Step 7 is where surrender becomes action.

“We humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings.”

This step reminds us that real change doesn’t come from trying harder… it comes from trusting God more. We can’t remove our own shortcomings through willpower alone, but we can humbly place them in God’s hands and allow Him to transform us from the inside out.

Humility isn’t weakness. It’s having the courage to admit we need God’s help and believing He is faithful to do the work in us.🧡

What is one shortcoming you’re asking God to help you surrender today?

💬 Why Are Small Groups So Important?

At Celebrate Recovery, the healing doesn’t stop after the lesson or testimony. That’s where Small Groups come in.

Small Groups are a safe, confidential place where you can:
❤️ Share what you’re going through without fear of judgment.
👂 Be heard by people who truly understand.
🙏 Receive encouragement, hope, and support.
🤝 Build genuine relationships with others on the same recovery journey.
🌱 Take the next step toward the freedom God has for you.

What happens in Small Groups stays in Small Groups. It’s a place built on confidentiality, respect, and grace. No fixing. No criticizing. No interrupting. Just honest sharing and listening.

You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t even have to say a word your first time. Just come as you are.

Recovery happens in community, not in isolation.

If you’ve been leaving after Large Group, we encourage you to stay and experience the life-changing power of Small Groups. You may discover that’s where God does His greatest work.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
