Ascension Sunday is the liturgical celebration of the bodily ascent of Jesus Christ into heaven, observed on the Seventh Sunday of Easter in many Christian dioceses and denominations. While historically occurring on a Thursday (exactly 40 days after Easter Sunday), church leaders frequently transfer the celebration to the following Sunday to allow for greater attendance and a more solemn observance among the faithful.
