FATHER’S DAY MESSAGE

Today is Father's Day, which can bring a lot of different emotions depending on where you are in life. For some, it is a joyful day spent celebrating a dad who has been a source of strength, wisdom, and encouragement. For others, it is a reminder of a father who has passed away, a relationship that is strained, a dad they never knew, or a child they have lost. Like many holidays, it can hold both gratitude and grief at the same time.

So, let's remember fathers. Let's pray for the dads who are trying their best and wondering if they are getting any of it right. Let's pray for fathers carrying burdens nobody sees. Let's pray for those who step into fatherly roles even when they are not required to. Let's pray for the men raising children, mentoring young people, coaching teams, teaching classes, and quietly making a difference in lives that may never fully realize the impact they have had.

Let's also remember those for whom Father's Day is hard. Those missing someone. Those carrying wounds. Those facing empty chairs around the table. Those wishing they could make one more phone call, ask one more question, or hear one more story.

JESUS MADE A TOUR THROUGH ALL THE TOWNS AND VILLAGES MATTHEW 9:35-10:1,5,6-8

Jesus made a tour through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom and curing all kinds of diseases and sickness.And when he saw the crowds, he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest.’He summoned his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits with power to cast them out and to cure all kinds of diseases and sickness. These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them as follows: ‘Go rather to the lost sheep of the House of Israel. And as you go, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils. You received without charge, give without charge.

REFLECTION ON THE HAND -DRAWN MAP

Today’s Gospel reading starts with Jesus’ healing and performing miracles, doing ‘a tour through all the towns and villages. Jesus travelled extensively during his three years of ministry. Hence it is good to look at a map sometimes, to re)ect on His extensive travels. Our map is a simple+yet very clear artistic illustration of where Jesus’ main miracles were performed. The map is artistic yet informative.We often read in the Gospels that Jesus healed people, then slept, got up, moved to the next village, healed some more, etc… there is a rhythm we see in Jesus’ life. But these readings often state as well that He went /rst to a solitary place to pray and be with His Father. Traveling and praying went hand in hand. Traveling couldn’t happen without prayer. So, alongside the thread of traveling, runs the thread of prayer in Jesus’ life.Imagine just for one minute what it would be like to walk with Jesus to all these places. We would be in the presence of His energy, His sense of mission, His goals, His teachings, his miracles… but above all we would be walking beside Him as a close friend. He would talk to each of us with love, compassion, forgiveness and an amazing sense of joy. Just imagine travelling with Him…

June is normally the marker for big vacations, schedule disruptions, and most notably, school is out! With everyone’s routines completely upended, the church naturally scatters a bit in June. It can feel a little frustrating to see our attendance numbers drop because half of the congregation is out of town (probably at the beach, camping, traveling to see family, or something along those lines). But there is a unique beauty in this season too. When the church scatters, the ministry goes with them. This is an excellent time to remind us that our faith isn’t confined to a building or a weekend service. As you hit the road this summer, it’s a chance for you to live out your faith in new environments, connect deeply with your families, and find God in the interruptions. Embrace the change in pace this month!
