It was chaos like he had never imagined! Traffic was a little heavy on 75 North when it happened! Several cars suddenly slowed down and some veered completely off the road! Moments latter traffic was at a complete standstill on both sides of the highway! He got out of his car to investigate! It looked like this was going to take a while! A woman nearby was an emotional wreck! On her knees rocking back and forth with baby clothes clutched to her chest, she cried, “My baby, my baby, he’s gone, he’s gone! Oh God!” Someone said that a driverless car had collided with a vehicle just a few cars ahead! The chaos was everywhere! He was trying stay calm, but this was the weirdest thing he had ever seen! It was like the bodies of some people had dissolved or just disappeared! “It happened, they,re gone! All of them!,” exclaimed a young man in his twenties! Another replied, “Who’s gone?” Then he explained, “All my Christian friends! They said this would happen, and I could be ready (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17), but I wasn’t! Oh God, if I had only listened!” O Lord, we are praying today for our friends and family who are not ready! Please Lord, let us be a living witness before that day comes! Give us the opportunity and the courage to share the truth with them, while there is still time, before it’s too late! You are calling us to be Your witnesses, today! Give us a divine appointment with some lost soul today, because the chaos is coming.

There were a lot of changes in his life. He had begun the process of selling the business. Who would have known they would touch so many lives? Everyday it seemed that someone would come by just to see them. They didn’t really come to buy anything. Then his wife decided he should do some Spring cleaning. As if selling the business wasn’t enough. That’s when it happened. Wow! He found the old grill in the back of a seldom used cabinet that they were cleaning out. It was small and electric. How long had it been there? Well I guess it was long enough to forget they had it and to know they really didn’t need it. Lately they had found ways to bless others with several things, and perhaps this forgotten grill would become a blessing too. Oh Lord, we are praying today for those “old grills” out there who feel misplaced and forgotten! How they would love to be useful and to be a blessing to someone. As we prepare for Your soon return, Lord, help us to find them and release the precious gifts You have placed in them! Our purpose isn’t to sit on a shelf, to just take up space in a cabinet, or just fill a seat in the sanctuary! You have an awesome plan for us to bring glory to Your name as we are a blessing to others (Jeremiah 29:11)! May we open the cabinets, find our gifts, and set the old grills free!

She was pleading with him again, like many times before, and he had no intention of giving in. He didn’t believe like her, but she was persistent! It hurt when he coughed, and he was spitting up blood now. The report from the doctor wasn’t good! He was dying and didn’t have long to live! She was back again, and now she wasn’t just pleading; she was crying, apparently overwhelmed with the news! “Alright, alright,” he responded, “I’ll read it, if you’ll just stop crying!” At her suggestion he began with the New Testament, because he didn’t have much time! Oh Lord, in Your word he found hope and healing, all because of her pleading! We have prayed much for lost friends and family, Lord. We have tried to witness, and pleaded with them in the past. Today we are praying for a new sense of urgency! As we come into Your presence to intercede for them, give us that renewed passion that comes from seeing them as lost and running out of time, dying without You in their lives! May we be passionate today about their souls (Proverbs 11:30)! Infuse us with the power of Your Spirit, and make us Your witnesses, pleading again.

The old house made some creaky noises sometimes. They seemed louder to him when he woke in the dark, in the middle of the night. He was only ten when they moved to this house, and when he awoke like this he would usually just reach out his hand to find his little brother sleeping near him. It reassured him, especially on nights when he was concerned about the second coming, but tonight there was no little brother. This year their age difference put them in summer camps that fell on different dates! His brother was gone! He was alone in the dark, in this creaky old house! Finally his fear drove him from the comfort of his bed. He crept quietly down the hall, and knocked lightly on his parents bedroom door. “Dad,” he called softly; “Dad, I’m scared!” There was no answer! Either Jesus had come, or he hadn’t knocked or called loudly enough! He called twice more before Dad’s voice came from the other side, “Get back to bed, and go to sleep, or I’ll give you something to be afraid of!” Jumping back into his bed he pulled the covers over his head and eventually fell asleep! Oh Lord, we are praying this morning for those who are struggling with fear. Instead of looking forward to Your return, they are afraid! Prepare our hearts, Lord, for Your soon return! Forgive us, and cleanse us from sin and doubt. Fill us with that confidence that comes from being in Your presence! As we experience Your awesome power, remind us that this same Spirit that raised You up will also quicken our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11)! Melt away all doubt and fear today. Let us be Your witnesses in these last days, prepared for Your return and preparing others! May we pray with confidence, “Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus,” even here in this creaky old house.

The sound of the lock closing behind him was the reality of the moment, and there was nothing he could do or say to change what was happening. Everything had been going so well! He had been promoted until there was no better position to be had, for a man with his background. This just wasn’t right! He was falsely accused (Genesis 39:1-23)! His hopes and dreams were crushed! If he ever got out, now, who would ever hire him? We are praying today, Lord, for those whose dreams have been crushed. We struggle with believing our dream will ever become a reality! We have come so close, so many times that the recent disappointment has caused our vision to die! Oh Lord, as we come to You this morning we are praying for a rebirth of our vision! Help us to dream again! Remind us that You gave us this dream! You have spoken to us, and Your word not only creates, but it also re-creates! Restore our hope; renew our vision, and make us dream again, Lord! Then the prison doors will open! You are setting us free! What You have spoken, You will do! The temporary setbacks and disappointments only underscore the fact that only You can do this, and You alone receive the glory! What sounded like the reality of the moment wasn’t our reality at all! Our reality is here in Your presence, whatever the circumstances may be! The disappointments are only temporary, and they dissolve in the glory of Your presence! We rise today to live the reality of the dream You have given us! Oh the precious glory of Your presence and the reality of the moment!

As he pulled into the driveway, so many memories came rushing in. The house and the hillside where he had played seemed smaller now, probably because he had been a small child here. There were fond memories of his childhood. He had learned to build things with his dad. His dad was awesome. He could build anything from furniture to houses. Things his dad had built were still around as a testimony to this skill, but what he remembered most was how often Dad would fix broken things. Oh Lord we are praying for those who are broken (Psalm 34:18). They need to find their way home to Your presence because You are still the Fixer of broken things! You do not despise us when we come before You broken! You don’t throw us away, but here in Your presence we learn how awesome You are at fixing our broken lives, healing our broken relationships, and rebuilding us! Things are not too far gone! There is hope, because You are here, ready to work in our lives if we will let You. So, yes Lord, we are ready, now! Let Your healing grace flow. Work Your wonders in us now, because You are our Father, the Fixer of Broken Things.
