Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament, leaves us with God’s final words to the Israelites who have again doubted Him and fallen from their covenantal relationship with Him. But God does not leave them there. The book ends with a prophesy of the coming Messiah, preceded by a prophetic messenger.

God, in his covenantal love, sent His Son to his chosen people, in spite of their unfaithfulness. Jesus, fully righteous, paid the price to redeem those who would follow him, returned to his Father in heaven, and sent the Holy Spirit to convict people to repent, believe truth, and follow Christ our Savior. All who respond in faith, are now included in His covenantal love and viewed as His treasured possession!

God’s words, spoken through Malachi, teach us that God’s people have a special relationship with him that should not be taken lightly! We are to be holy, set apart, righteous, and dedicated to serving our covenantal God who treasures us. 🙏🏻❤️

The visions of Zechariah make clear that sin permeates the whole earth and must be punished by a just God. Eventually He will remove sin. God never gives up on His remnant, and sent His Son to fulfill the dual role of priest & king. Jesus became the sacrificial offering and bore the curse of sin and continually intercedes for those who believe, and will reign forever with perfect justice. God has proclaimed His solution for sin through the prophets in the Old Testament, which was ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ. His Word has served as our warning. If we do not accept the solution only our Creator God can offer, we will suffer the punishment we rightly deserve. Faith does not rely on blind optimism, but stands on settled truth. As stated in this week’s notes, “Filling our minds with God’s truth prepares us to filter what we see and feel through what God has declared to be unchangeably true.” Join us on Wednesday mornings at 9 am to learn more❣️
