James 3:13-18 NIV
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

What kind of community are we at Damascus Road?

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?"

Join us Thursdays this fall at 6pm in the McClelland Park lobby for our Student Bible Study as we explore what scripture tells us about God.

Subconsciously, we come to believe things about God, based on culture, our church upbringing, or how our parents treated us. Common misconceptions include believing that God is perpetually angry, loves us only when we behave, or measures us by our performance. But what kind of God does the Bible actually reveal? And how does a true understanding of who He is change our relationship and faith?
