05/26/2026
Registration is now OPEN for active, certified, badged Early Response Team (ERT) members to sign up for Chainsaw Safety Training. The dates are 06/26 - 06/27/26. The place is Mount Eagle Retreat Center near Clinton.
Do you own a chainsaw and enjoying using it? Do you have all the chainsaw safety equipment (hardhat with face shield & earmuffs and chaps)? Can you be ready to leave home soon after a storm to travel across the state (or to another Conference) to help your neighbors in need?
If so, the upcoming Chainsaw Safety Class may be for you. Taught by experienced trainer Kevin Overholt, you will learn what to do to be safe AND what not to do.
Participants who already have an ERT badge are eligible. They will spend Friday night at Beal Lodge, share meals, and study and train on Saturday. Class size is limited.
There is a priority for registration:
First priority will be an ERT whose chainsaw safety badge has expired AND who has deployed with a UM Disaster Response team within the past three years.
Second priority will be an ERT who wants to become part of the UMC chainsaw crew AND who has volunteered with a Disaster Response team within the past three years.
Third priority will be an ERT who has not volunteered in the past three years.
You may register at the Arkansas United Methodist website (arumc.org) under the section Disaster Response Training.
Because class size is limited and registration for the course has three levels of priority, your registration will show pending. You will be contacted via email with your proof of registration OR you will be placed on a waitlist for a later class. There is a $25.00 fee for new certifications, payable at the door in cash or check to ARUMC.
