I read a story (modern day parable) the other day that struck me entitled Hot Dog Man.
The story is told about a man who made hotdogs every week for years, as part of a midweek ministry. Then the vision and leaders of the church changed and for good reasons not stated here, but they decided to move to another ministry midweek which did not include food. It was a faithful decision but required change.

So, the hot dog maker came to pastor and asked if he could still make hot dogs. It did not really fit in with the new ideas for the church’s ministry, so his request was respectfully and politely denied, with thanks for many years of service. Hot dog man became angry and told pastor he was leaving that church. He went home and told his wife that they were leaving that church. She asked why. He stated, “Because the leaders will not let me make hot dogs anymore!”

Upon hearing his answer out loud and being confronted with his wife’s “look”, he realized how it actually sounded. How petty he felt. He visited the pastor then next day and apologized and told the pastor that he was available to help support the new vision in whatever way he could best fulfill it.

Sometimes we need to look in the mirror closely or hear ourselves to truly acknowledge our motives.

Hi everyone,

We need your help! We are currently short on the minimum number of volunteers required to lock in our upcoming session at the Midwest Food Bank. If we do not recruit more volunteers, we will unfortunately lose our spot on September 2.

The Midwest Food Bank does incredible work preparing food boxes and disaster relief supplies for communities locally, nationwide, and globally. They also support local programs in Central Illinois, such as providing snack packs for school children.

Please join us on Wednesday, September 2, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
