Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and School

Our Redeemer is "A Family of God Sharing Christ's Love" in Tigard and beyond Officially we are part of the Lutheran Church Missouri-Synod

Our Redeemer is a mix of people – some lifetime Lutherans, others new to this (or any) faith; singles, young families, empty nesters and retirees; native Oregonians and transplants. Varied though we are, we share a desire to learn and grow in our faith; and express that faith through our worship, our service to one another, and our service in our community and the world.

Help Refresh our church grounds at our Campus Cleanup on Saturday, June 6 from 9 AM-12 PM. Trees and bushes will be trimmed, as well as weeding around the property that needs to be done. If the attendees could please bring their own typical weeding tools that would be great as we have many areas needing work.

Get to know Bob and Fran Peters!

What brought you to our church and how long have you been members?

When we lived in Madison, WI in the 1970’s, we were part of a mission congregation start up and cherished the experience. Upon moving to Portland in 1985, we joined Pilgrim and when we learned a new mission was starting in Tigard, we wanted to be a part of it. That was in 1989 and it has been quite a ride.

What do you enjoy most about being part of Our Redeemer?

Clearly, it is the people. This is where our friends are.

What is a fun fact about your family that you'd like to share?

We have been restoring vintage Ford Thunderbird cars since 1985 and have been active in the local Thunderbird Club for 40 years. We helped bring the International Thunderbird Convention to Portland 3 times. 2005, 2011 and 2021. We hosted Thunderbird owners from all over the USA and Canada as well as the UK and Australia.

1. What brought your family to our church and how long have you been members?

I’d been looking for a church home & had tried out a number of churches in the area. Our Redeemer felt like the right fit for our young family.

2. What do you enjoy most about being part of Our Redeemer?

The people. We started coming to ORLC when Liesl was a baby, & Annika Andrea was the same age, also often sitting or crawling on the floor in the row in front of us.

3. What is a fun fact about your family that you'd like to share?

Aaron & I are from the Midwest (Ohio & Kentucky) & our kids have migrated back that direction (at least in the short term) - Lucy is just graduating from Beloit college in Wisconsin. Will is at Albion college in Michigan (where Aaron & I both went & where we met), & Liesl starts college at Elon university in Noth Carolina in August.

Get to know Our Redeemer member Theresa Shorten.

What brought you to our church and how long have you been a member?

My parents were instrumental in getting this church started. I joined in 1990 (I believe) when I moved to Oregon from Hawaii. We were having our Sunday service at Fowler High School.

What do you enjoy most about being part of Our Redeemer?

The great friendships I’ve been blessed with over the years.

What is a fun fact about your family that you'd like to share?

I love doggies. Due to my husband's tendency to fall, a dog is not feasible to have in our family right now. So, I love my two guinea pigs Joy & Noelle. They stay in their cage or playpen out of the way, unless we are holding them.
