Everyone is welcome at Desert Cross Lutheran Church! Desert Cross has a heart for mission, called by the Holy Spirit to reach out in love to the needy and hurting of our world. We have been serving the East Valley since 1984 and are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Our vision for the future is to continue Serving in Christ's Name, Making Christ Known, and Equipping people for Mission. We are a two-site congregation, with campuses in Tempe and Gilbert Arizona.

DCLC Stories of Joy - Taste of Home
Chef Craig Bowerson has been cooking professionally for more thirty years. He thought he was good at his craft . . . until he started cooking at The Cedars, a care home in McPherson, Kansas. There he heard a lot of complaints about the food, so he asked the residents about the meals they served at home. He asked how they prepared the dishes. He even asked for recipes. Those family recipes are regularly on the menu now, and that taste of home is bringing joy to residents. Click the link below to read about it.

DCLC Stories of Joy - Helping a Stranger
While waiting for a flight after attending a family funeral, a Utah woman noticed an older airport employee struggling to walk across the tarmac. Moved by what she saw, she recorded a short video and shared it on social media, hoping someone might know his story. She soon learned he was a Navy veteran who had returned to work because he needed the income. Her video quickly went viral, inspiring thousands of strangers to donate more than $170,000 to help him retire. What began as one person’s willingness to notice someone in need became an extraordinary act of generosity from people who simply wanted to make a stranger’s life a little easier. It’s the end of August. It’s been a rolling start for schools around the country, but most are back in classrooms . . . or will be after Labor Day. Freshman at Bishop Kelley High School are greeted with an unusual tradition. For more than twenty years, they’ve been greeted by the senior class. Years ago they were greeted with a prank, but now it’s to show kindness to the moms and dads dropping their kids off at school. We’re gearing up for the start of our education season and all the ways we can grow, serve, and make a difference together in the months ahead. DCLC Stories of Joy - Happy Birthday, Soren!
An Ohio mother hoped to make her 11-year-old son’s birthday a little more special. Her son, Soren, who has autism, loves trick-or-treating. The costumes, the excitement of ringing doorbells, and the chance to greet neighbors. Since his birthday falls in the summer, she posted a simple request on Facebook asking if a few neighbors might be willing to hand out candy so he could enjoy an afternoon of Halloween in August. She expected maybe half a dozen families to say yes. Instead, 83 households volunteered. Some decorated their homes, others bought his favorite candy, and children came out to cheer him on as Soren, dressed in a banana costume, happily made his way through the neighborhood. What began as one mother’s small request became a powerful reminder that kindness often grows far beyond what we imagine. Click the link below to read about Soren’s special day.

Take a hike! Dale Sanders is taking a lot of hikes this year. He’s hiking the Appalachian Trail. That’s more than two thousand miles, and this is his second time hiking the famous trail. DCLC Stories of Joy - Spider-Man to the Rescue!
A young man who wears a Spider-Man costume for his job just wants kids to grow up to be good people. He set a great example when he jumped out of his truck after work, still wearing his Spider-Man uniform, and helped a man in a wheelchair cross the road just in the nick of time.
