The first graders learned about their address in Social Studies. They addressed an envelope to themselves and signed their name on a card. They will each be getting mail from a classmate soon!

Our Warrior News students had a fantastic opportunity today to learn from Lizzie Schafer of Elizabeth’s Edits!

Lizzie shared her journey in journalism and video production, which began when she joined journalism as a freshman at Taylorville High School, and then later joined Tommy TV. Since then, she has worked in television production, created commercials, hosted BucoNation Update, broadcast sports with ESPN, ESPN+, CBS, and FOX, worked March Madness, and even served as a videographer for the Kansas State rowing team!

Our students got to learn from that experience as Lizzie shared practical tips for conducting interviews, creating better videos, communicating with an audience, and working in the world of media and broadcasting.

And the best part? They didn’t just listen—they got to put what they learned into practice! One of our students had the opportunity to conduct a real interview with Lizzie.

We are so thankful to Lizzie for taking the time to invest in our students and show them that the skills they’re developing through Warrior News can open the door to some pretty amazing opportunities!

Stay tuned for the interview video coming soon! 🎥🎤

We had a great time in chapel today as Mr. Huddleston challenged our students to think about the power of the tongue and the impact our words can have on others.

He kicked things off with a fun mystery drink taste test to demonstrate just how powerful our tongue can be. From there, students were reminded to THINK before they speak:

T — Is it True?
H — Is it Helpful?
I — Is it Inspiring?
N — Is it Necessary?
K — Is it Kind?

🎥 Warrior News: Episode 1

We’re excited to introduce Warrior News, a new 6th grade elective at VCS! Each week, our students will have the opportunity to write articles, develop their technology and media skills, and create a weekly news video to share with our school community.

For Episode 1, we jumped right in! This was filmed on the very first day of school with little time and no preparation—so this is definitely just the beginning! We’re excited to see how much our students grow and how Warrior News develops throughout the year.

Be on the lookout for:
📰 Student-written articles on our school website
🎥 Weekly Warrior News videos (shown in classrooms and here on Facebook!)
🎛️ Students serving in the booth during some chapels

We’re excited to give our students real opportunities to create, communicate, learn technology, and serve.

Welcome to Warrior News! Episode 1 is just the start. 💜
