Last week, we heard the first part of Hebrews 11 – the faith chapter. We talked about the need for faith in our lives.

This week, we look at the second half of Hebrews 11 and we will hone in on our need to keep that faith. Often that is harder than finding the faith, isn’t it? We will hear about folks that endured a lot as the church developed and maintained an eye on the promise that they would receive.

Sometimes the same is called forth from us, isn’t it? And that is tough to do!

I hope you will join us either at Symsonia UMC at 9 am or Christ UMC at 11 am and we look once again at our faith…and how we hold on to it! If you can’t join us in person, we will be live on the pages for both churches.

In the meantime, keep the faith!

Tomorrow, for our scripture, we will hear the definitive passage about faith: “The substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen.” (KJV)

Yeah, trying to figure out what that means makes my head hurt too.

It seems though that the writer of Hebrews was writing to a church that was struggling. Folks that were giving up. People who were considering leaving not only the church, but the faith as well. The faith-examples that the writer sights -- Abraham, Enoch, Cain, Sarah, Noah all had one other thing in common besides their faith: the promise of a better place. A place they could call their own.

I wonder if we have that in our sights today?

Join us tomorrow at Symsonia United Methodist Church at 9 am or at Christ United Methodist Church in Mayfield at 11 am. We will be observing Holy Communion during our worship tomorrow. If you can’t be there in person, tune us on our pages.

Tomorrow, we find Jesus on the shore of the sea of Tiberius doing something unusual for him – cooking! Some of the disciples, meanwhile, have gone back to the sea to fish – back to what they grew up with and knew the best.

This story takes place after the resurrection. In fact, Jesus is going to ascend soon after this. However, there is a familiar ring to the story we hear. It is about a fishing miracle…just like the one that happened at the beginning of Jesus ministry when he called for the disciples to “follow me”. Those happen to be the same last words from tomorrow’s story as well!

In the story, Jesus questioned Peter three times: “Do you love me?” and then says, “Feed my sheep”.

With what kind of love did Peter love Jesus? With what kind of love do WE love Jesus and all those that belong to him?

We meet Jesus tomorrow in this story as well at his table during Holy Communion. Symsonia United Methodist Church meets at 9 am . The service will be live on the church’s page.
