Yesterday we saw another example of the model of discipleship as Jesus interacted with the Samaritan woman at the well. She did what Nicodemus could not in recognizing his authority. Below were some questions to consider this week:

• What is something in the last year that God has challenged your belief or behavior as incompatible with his kingdom? (If nothing comes to mind, that should be an indicator for us that we may have crafted God in our own image)

• Where do you see God’s work around you, preparing the harvest, in advance of your efforts?

• What social barrier might God be inviting you to push past in order to share the gospel with someone unexpected?

Yesterday we saw the resentment that John's disciples had towards Jesus. As we considered the places in our lives where we felt like we were losing, we were invited to reflect on the following questions:

• What is an area of life that you are feeling disgruntled or resentful about right now, especially as you compare yourself to others?

• How can you learn contentment in the Lord, even in your failures?

• What is a lesson you have learned “playing second fiddle” that you may not have received if you were in the lead?

Yesterday we saw God's posture towards the world in John 3:16. We were invited to consider the following questions to reflect on:

• As you think about following Jesus, do you see yourself more in Nicodemus (holding Jesus somewhat at arm’s length), or more like Peter (leaving everything and receiving a new identity)?

• Dorothy Day once said, “I really only love God as much as I love the person I love the least.” Do you agree with her statement, why or why not?

• Think of someone you hate, or at the very least don’t like very much. What is God’s posture towards them? Invite God to give you his perspective on this individual.

This morning we look at the interaction between Jesus and the Pharisee, Nicodemus. We will also examine the most famous of Bible passages, John 3:16. Join us online or in person!

I have two announcements that I wanted to pass along:

1. We will be having a church community time twice a month falling on the 2nd Wednesdays and 4th Tuesdays of the month. This upcoming Wednesday (10/14) will be our first one. Let's plan to have a game night from 6:30-8:30pm, I hope you can attend!

2. Second, we are partnering with Swissvale for their Halloween parade on Saturday, October 31. At the conclusion of the parade we are going to provide hot dogs and have a few yard games for the kids to play. I will need help for set up, cooking the food, running games, and tear down. The parade will arrive at Dickson between 12:15-12:30pm, I only plan to have us stay until about 1:30pm. If any of your Marching Band kids want to help at the conclusion of the parade there that would be awesome too! Please let me know if you are able to help out with this event.

Yesterday we looked at Jesus clearing the temple and were invited to consider his civil disobedience in the act with the following questions:

• The temple was the center of moral, religious, and political life. If Jesus is the new temple, how does that shape how we engage those areas?
• If Jesus were to come to our church, do you think he would brandish a whip, or praise God for what is happening here? Why?
• Where do you see the disconnect between public life and following Jesus at your local level? What can be done about it?

Yesterday we looked at the first of Jesus' signs in the gospel of John; turning water into w**e. As we considered the various layers of John's writing, we were invited to consider the following questions:

• Where have you seen or grasped the abundance of God in your own life?

• In your own words, how would you distinguish between a miracle and a sign in the gospels?

• Where do you need Jesus to show up for you this week? On an exam? In not being mastered by your emotions? Providing for your family’s finances at the end of the month?
