Pentecost is more than a story—it’s the day faith stood up.
Peter could have gone home to go fishing…
Instead, filled with the Holy Spirit, he preached Jesus’ suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension—and thousands believed.
The same Spirit moves us from belief to action today.

Are you spiritually dehydrated and don’t even know it?
In Arizona, you can be on the edge of heat exhaustion and swear you’re “not thirsty.” Jesus says the same thing can happen to our souls.
On Pentecost, He offers “living water” — the Holy Spirit — to people who didn’t even realize how dry they were.

We are so divided that “United” in United States and “United” in United Methodists often sounds like a joke.
The sermon called it out: we’re divided on sexuality, immigration, politics—and the world is watching.
Jesus said the world would know we are His by our love and our unity, not by our perfectly argued positions.
• Curate your feeds: Unfollow or mute voices that thrive on outrage, mockery, and demonizing “the other side.”
• Intentionally invite someone to coffee who disagrees with you politically or theologically—ask questions, don’t argue.
• If a church decision doesn’t go your way, resist the “take my toys to another sandbox” move; stay, talk, serve, work toward unity.
• Model for your kids/younger friends how to speak about people you disagree with—no sarcasm, no slurs, no dehumanizing.

Our baptism isn’t just a sweet church ceremony.
It’s a declaration of war on the old self.
In the sermon, we talked about baptism as a trajectory:
• Going under the water = dying to our way
• Coming up = rising to new life in Christ
Dying to self means:
• It’s not about "my way or I leave"
• It’s not about always being right
• It’s about putting God and others first
In a me first culture, that’s radical discipleship.
Where is Jesus asking you to “die to self” this week?

Our feeds are full of:
Us vs. Them.
Left vs. Right.
In vs. Out.
But Jesus said the world would know we’re His disciples by our love and unity, not our perfectly crafted arguments.
This week:
Mute a divisive voice.
Invite a real conversation.
Choose love over labels.

What if “living your best life” actually meant putting others first?
Ascension isn’t just about Jesus going up—it’s about us going down in ego and up in love. In a culture that tells us to protect “my time, my money, my peace” at all costs, Jesus calls us to a different trajectory: die to self, rise to a new way of living, and bring glory to God through how we love.

• Before you post a rant, ask: “Is this about truth and love, or just about me being right?”
• At work, take one task this week that no one wants and do it with zero credit-seeking.
• In your family or friend group, let someone else “win” the argument and choose to protect the relationship over your pride.
• Budget 5–10% of your “fun money” not for you, but for generosity (coffee for a coworker, groceries for a neighbor, surprise Venmo for a stressed friend).

Remember what kids do in a sandbox?
If they don’t get their way, they grab their toys and go home.

In the sermon, we named a hard reality:
Many adults do the same thing with church.
“If I don’t get what I want, I’ll just go somewhere else.”

But Jesus calls us to a different path:
From consumer to servant.
From “How am I being served?” to “How can I serve others?”

Church is not a spiritual product.
It’s a family—and families work, sacrifice, and serve together.

What’s one concrete way you can serve in your church this month?

Ascension isn’t Jesus peacing out.
It’s the final movement of the same song:
Cross.
Resurrection.
Ascension.
He goes to the Father so we can live His life here and now.
Ascension Sunday is your reminder:
You’re not abandoned.
You’re empowered.
Drop a “🙌” if you’re thankful Jesus didn’t just rise—He reigns.

The Ascension of Jesus isn’t just the “last scene” in the Gospel story.
It’s part of God’s glory trajectory:

• Jesus suffers and dies
• Jesus rises from the grave
• Jesus ascends to the Father

Ascension Sunday reminds us: Jesus is at the right hand of God, praying for us, empowering us, and calling us into the same path of sacrificial love and resurrection life.

How does knowing Jesus ascended—not just rose—shape your faith this week?

Sunday, of the Ascension, ascends into heaven, of God, discipleship, resurrection Jesus

Let us know you are watching here: https://lakeviewumc.net/online-check-in
He declares that eternal life is found in knowing the one true God and Jesus Christ whom He sent. This reminds us that eternal life is not merely something that begins after death; it is a living relationship with God that begins now.

When the world feels overwhelming, it’s tempting to ask, “Is any of this worth it?”
The resurrection answers: Yes.
Life is worth the living, not because it’s easy, but because He lives—and you are raised with Him.
