What a powerful reminder from God’s Word this morning at Community Baptist Church! ❤️

Today we continued our study through Romans 12, focusing on “How Love Acts When Times Are Tough.”

📖 Romans 12:9–13

One of the main truths we were reminded of today is that biblical love is a verb—not simply a feeling. Genuine, sincere love is demonstrated through our actions, especially when relationships and circumstances become difficult.

❤️ Sincere love is not lazy.
Paul tells us not to lag behind in diligence. Love takes effort, work, patience, and perseverance. In every relationship—marriage, family, friendships, church relationships, and more—there will be times when we have to fight our flesh, believe truth, and intentionally choose to love.

❤️ Sincere love is fervent in spirit.
Because of the gospel, we are new creations. God doesn’t leave us as we were; He is continually growing and conforming us to the image of Christ. Our relationships become opportunities for sanctification—to grow and become more like Jesus.

❤️ Sincere love extends mercy and grace.
That’s how God loved us. We don’t love others because they deserve it—we love because we ourselves have received mercy and grace through Christ. We were sinners in need of the same grace.

❤️ Sincere love trusts God.
The Golden Rule—treating others the way we want to be treated—is rooted in trusting our Heavenly Father to care for us. When we trust God with what we receive, we’re free to love others without constantly demanding something in return.

❤️ Sincere love rejoices in hope.
Biblical hope isn’t wishful thinking. It is confidence in the promises of a trustworthy and all-powerful God. Even when circumstances don’t go according to our plans, God remains faithful.

❤️ Sincere love hopes the best for others.
We know what God is capable of because we’ve experienced His grace ourselves. There is no person outside the reach of God’s power. We can desire the best for others and trust God with the outcome.

❤️ Sincere love perseveres in tribulation.
When the weight gets heavy, love doesn’t simply quit. Biblical perseverance is staying under the weight rather than giving up. Difficult seasons test the genuineness of our love—and they also give us opportunities to demonstrate the transforming power of the gospel.

One of the biggest takeaways from today’s message:

Our circumstances should never be stronger than Christ in our lives.

When the world sees how we respond to difficult relationships, suffering, disappointment, conflict, and uncertainty, they should see something different in us—not bitterness, anger, vengeance, or hopelessness, but faith, grace, hope, perseverance, and love.

Our relationships aren’t simply about what we can receive from another person. They are opportunities to serve the Lord and reflect the gospel. Because of Christ’s sacrifice for us, we are called to live as living sacrifices, showing the world what His sacrifice has accomplished in us.

❤️ Sunday Service Recap | Sincere Love

What does sincere, biblical love really look like?

This Sunday, we explored a powerful truth from Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 13: Biblical love is not simply a feeling—it is an action. Love is something we choose to do, even when it is difficult.

Sincere love is described as love “without hypocrisy”—without a second face or hidden agenda. It remains genuine and consistent regardless of circumstances.

📖 The Foundation of Sincere Love
True biblical love begins with two important commitments:

• Abhor what is evil — Love does not ignore or embrace what harms others or contradicts God’s goodness.
• Cling to what is good — Love holds tightly to truth and rejoices in what is right according to God’s Word.

❤️ What Does Love Actually DO?

1 Corinthians 13 gives us a practical picture of love:

✨ Love is patient and kind.
✨ Love is not jealous, boastful, or arrogant.
✨ Love does not insist on its own way.
✨ Love is not easily angered.
✨ Love does not keep a record of wrongs.
✨ Love rejoices in truth.
✨ Love bears, believes, hopes, and endures.

In other words, love puts others before self. Love forgives. Love perseveres. Love doesn’t quit when things become difficult.

And Romans 12 brings this into our everyday relationships within the body of Christ:

🤍 Be devoted to one another like family.
🤍 Honor one another.
🤍 Instead of competing to be right, “outdo one another in showing honor.”
🤍 Be willing to be the first to apologize, the first to encourage, and the first to look for the good in someone else.

The challenge for each of us this week is simple:

Are we merely saying that we love—or are our actions proving it?

Biblical love is not about what we feel in the moment. It is about choosing to love God’s way.

❤️ A FEW KEY TAKEAWAYS

Love is Gospel-Rooted
Genuine biblical love is more than a feeling. It is an action made possible because God first loved us through Christ.

We were never meant to live the Christian life alone. Fellowship with other believers helps us stay tethered to truth and reminds us when we begin to drift.

This week’s session focused on the biblical foundations of parenting and the importance of “getting ahead of the world” in the lives of our children and adolescents.

We talked about the responsibility parents have to be the primary voices shaping their children’s understanding of relationships, romance, marriage, and godly living—rather than allowing the world to fill those categories first.

Some key takeaways included:

• Parents are called to be intentional and protective, making wise decisions about media, influences, and cultural expectations.

• The formative years matter. What we teach and model early can help establish a strong biblical foundation before the world begins shaping those beliefs.

• Seek wisdom from older, godly believers. Titus 2 reminds us of the value of learning from those who have walked before us.

• Romantic desire is a good gift from God, but Scripture gives it a proper destination: marriage.

• Our marriages teach our children. A loving, affectionate, repentant, Christ-centered marriage gives children something beautiful to see and emulate.

• Families have freedom in application. While biblical principles remain firm, parents must prayerfully apply them according to the individual needs, maturity, and temperament of their children.

❤️ Ultimately, the goal is not simply to protect our children from the world, but to give them biblical categories, wisdom, and a love for God that prepares them to recognize and reject the world’s counterfeits.

“Saved to Serve: Using the Gifts God Has Given You”

⛪️ What is God calling YOU to do?

This Sunday at Community Baptist Church, we were reminded of an important truth: we are not saved simply to sit—we are saved to serve! 🙌

God has uniquely gifted every believer, and those gifts are not meant to be kept to ourselves. They are given so that we can serve one another, build up the body of Christ, and help accomplish His mission. ❤️

📖 Romans 12:1–8 challenges us to present ourselves as a living sacrifice and reminds us that we each have different gifts according to the grace God has given us.

🎁 THE EIGHT ONGOING GIFTS

🔹 Evangelism — A burden to reach others with the Gospel and see souls won for Christ.
🔹 Pastor-Teacher — Shepherding, protecting, teaching, and equipping the flock.
🔹 Service — A desire to meet practical and physical needs within the body.
🔹 Teaching — Studying and clearly explaining God’s Word so others can understand and grow.
🔹 Exhortation — Encouraging others to apply biblical truth and live according to God’s Word.
🔹 Giving — A God-given burden to provide resources generously and cheerfully for the work of the Gospel. 💰❤️
🔹 Leading/Administration — Organizing, overseeing, and accomplishing tasks with diligence and excellence.
🔹 Mercy — Coming alongside those who are hurting or in trouble with compassion and cheerfulness. 🤍

💡 A powerful reminder from Sunday:
The Church isn’t supposed to be a 90/10 operation, where 10% of the people do 90% of the work.

God has designed His Church as a body, and every part has a purpose! 🫶

🫁 Just as a lung cannot function properly separated from the body, we aren’t meant to exercise our gifts in isolation. We need the local church, and the local church needs us.

🤔 QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER THIS WEEK:

💭 What are you uniquely burdened to do?

💭 Do you naturally find yourself drawn toward helping people, teaching truth, encouraging others, giving, organizing, showing mercy, or reaching the lost?

💭 Are you actually using the gift God has given you?

💭 Are you thinking too highly of yourself—or are you humbly recognizing your gift as a grace from God meant to benefit others?

🔥 If God has given you a gift, use it!
A lamp isn’t lit to be hidden under a basket. God has a purpose for the way He has gifted you.

And remember—serving isn’t about making ourselves look important. It’s about making Christ known and building up His Church. 🙏

🎶 Even our singing has purpose! As we worship together, we can encourage and teach one another through the truth contained in the songs we sing.

💰 And when we give, we’re reminded to give generously and cheerfully, examining not just what we give, but the heart behind our giving.

⛪️ Plug in. Get involved. Serve. Encourage. Give. Teach. Help. Show mercy. Share the Gospel.

There is a place for you in the body of Christ!

This powerful session explored Titus 2 relationships and the importance of life-on-life discipleship within the local church.

Titus 2 isn’t simply a list of instructions for different age groups—it gives us a blueprint for a healthy church on mission. God designed us to learn from one another, grow together, and intentionally pass biblical wisdom from one generation to the next.

🌱 LOOK FOR FRUIT, NOT JUST ROOTS

When looking for a Titus 2 mentor, look for someone whose life is producing the kind of fruit you desire.

Want a stronger marriage? Look for someone who has cultivated a godly marriage.
Want wisdom in parenting? Seek someone who has faithfully walked that road.

Rather than simply looking to our peers who may be “in the same boat,” we should be willing to “go up” to those who are spiritually more mature and learn from their wisdom and experience.

☕ LIFE-ON-LIFE DISCIPLESHIP

True discipleship requires relationship, proximity, humility, and accountability. It’s more than listening to a podcast, watching a sermon, or reading a book.

Sometimes discipleship looks like grabbing coffee and talking through the real challenges of raising children, navigating marriage, or walking through a particular season of life.

A Titus 2 relationship creates an environment where biblical encouragement and even loving correction can take place because someone knows you—and can see your life up close.

❤️ HUMILITY IS ESSENTIAL

Spiritual growth requires teachability.

We must be willing to receive wisdom, correction, and biblical truth—even when it challenges us. Pride can keep us from growing, while humility opens the door for God to work through the people He has placed around us.

And when we receive godly counsel, we should be careful not to seek out another voice simply because we want someone to validate what we already want to do.

📖 WHEN VOICES DON’T ALIGN, SCRIPTURE IS THE FINAL AUTHORITY.

The goal of Titus 2 relationships isn’t simply to find someone who agrees with us. It is to surround ourselves with godly people who will point us back to God’s Word and His truth.

💬 Who is someone God has placed in your life who has helped you grow spiritually?

And perhaps even more importantly—who are you intentionally pouring into?

Let’s be a church that embraces biblical discipleship, lives life together, and faithfully passes godly wisdom from one generation to the next. 🙏

🙏 THE FOUNDATION OF HUMILITY

The transition from Romans 1–11, which focuses on the theology of justification and grace, to Romans 12, which applies those truths to practical Christian living, begins with how believers view themselves.

Humility is not simply a natural personality trait—it is a divine grace that shapes how we see ourselves, others, and our place within the church.

• The Definition of Humility: In the first-century world, humility was often viewed as weakness. Paul reclaims it as a powerful and essential quality for spiritual health.

• The Sin of Pride: Pride can appear as self-elevation and arrogance, but it can also hide behind self-depreciation and a constant need for validation. Both ultimately place the focus on self rather than God.

• Sound Judgment: Believers are called not to think more highly of themselves than they ought, but to think with sound and sober judgment—seeing ourselves truthfully through God’s perspective rather than through cultural expectations or personal bias.

👀 THREE LENSES OF SELF-PERCEPTION

Paul gives us three important truths for understanding ourselves and our role within the church:

1️⃣ Divine Grace
Spiritual gifts are gifts of God’s grace. Because they are given by God and not earned, they leave no room for boasting.

2️⃣ Divine Diversity
The body of Christ needs many different gifts and functions to be healthy. Just as a physical body cannot function if it is made up of only one part, the church needs each member to faithfully serve in the way God has equipped them.

3️⃣ Divine Singularity
Though we are diverse in our gifts and roles, we are still one body in Christ. We are “members one of another,” creating a beautiful and necessary dependence on one another.

🛠️ SPIRITUAL GIFTS & SERVICE

The sermon also addresses common misconceptions about spiritual gifts, reminding us that spiritual gifts are given for the building up of the body of Christ—not for personal platforms or recognition.

• Gifts vs. Skills: Spiritual gifts are God-given capacities for service and are distinct from natural talents or learned skills, though they can certainly work together.

• Discovery Through Action: Rather than simply relying on spiritual gift tests, we can discover and affirm our gifts through actively serving within the local church.

• The Allotment of Faith: God sovereignly distributes gifts according to His purposes. To envy someone else’s gift or despise our own is ultimately to question God’s wisdom and design.

🎁 THE CHURCH AS A GIFT

We are called to shift our perspective. The church is not a platform for the individual, nor is it simply a service provider designed to meet our personal needs.

The church is a gift from God to the believer—the context in which we grow, serve, encourage one another, and live out our faith together.

📖 SUNDAY SERMON RECAP | ROMANS 12:1–2

This Sunday, we were challenged by the powerful truth found in Romans 12:1–2 and what it truly means to live a life fully surrendered to God. 🙏

After eleven chapters describing the incredible mercies of God, Paul calls believers to respond with total commitment—to present our lives as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is our reasonable response to all He has done for us. ❤️

The sermon then focused on two very different paths:

🌎 DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD

The world around us is constantly applying pressure to shape the way we think, live, and determine what is true and valuable. The “spirit of the age” influences culture through prevailing mindsets and beliefs such as:

🔹 Materialism — believing that having more is the ultimate goal
🔹 Humanism — placing personal happiness and pleasure above God’s will
🔹 Naturalism — rejecting the supernatural and reducing life to what can be physically explained
🔹 Postmodernism — replacing absolute truth with “my truth”

The question is: Are we allowing the culture around us to shape us?

🦋 BUT BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND

God calls us to something completely different. The word transformed speaks of a deep, inward change—a metamorphosis that changes us from the inside out.

Transformation doesn’t begin with our emotions or simply with what we feel. It begins with the renewing of our minds through God’s Word. As we cooperate with the Holy Spirit and allow Scripture to shape our thinking, our character and our lives begin to change.

✨ CONFORMED OR TRANSFORMED?

There are two paths:

➡️ Influenced by the spirit of the age → CONFORMED
➡️ Influenced by the Word of God → TRANSFORMED

The goal of a renewed mind is that we may discern and approve the will of God—knowing what is good, pleasing, and perfect in His sight.

💭 Reflection: What is shaping your mind today—the culture around you or the Word of God?

May we continually seek to be transformed into the image of Christ, growing in Him “from glory to glory.” 🙌
