Also known as Black Independence day, Juneteenth celebrates the official emancipation of the enslaved people in the United States when the people that were enslaved in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom on June 19th, 1865.

The official Juneteenth flag depicts a new star bursting over the horizon, representing freedom, hope for a better future, and new beginnings. The Pan-African flag, created by the UNIA, is also used to celebrate this holiday, as it stands for the unification of all people of Black African descent.

This is a day for all of us to rejoice in this historical event, spread love and awareness, and take the time to learn more. Happy Juneteenth!❤🖤💚
