Taxes & Tacos 🌮

On Wednesday, April 15, community members gathered at the Dorothy L. Jones Resource Center for a day centered on service, connection, and support. The Gospel Center Rescue Mission, alongside Church Street Coffee, was honored to be present, partnering with local community organizations to offer free tax preparation services, with State Senator Jerry McNerney also making a special appearance.

Throughout the event, individuals and families received assistance with filing their taxes, connected with valuable local resources, and enjoyed complimentary tacos. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together, serve the community, and be a blessing by meeting both practical and personal needs.

Serving with Heart: Community Cleanup Day

This past Saturday, April 18, members from First Baptist Church of Stockton came together with willing hearts to serve by helping clean and beautify the neighborhood surrounding the Gospel Center Rescue Mission.

Volunteers dedicated their time and energy to making a visible difference picking up debris, refreshing shared spaces, and bringing a renewed sense of care to the area. We are truly grateful for their partnership and servant-hearted spirit. It was a beautiful reflection of coming together in unity to make a positive and lasting impact.

This past Saturday, Church Street Coffee partnered with Inner City Action to bless our community in a meaningful way. During the outreach, they set up a welcoming coffee table and provided free coffee and snacks to hundreds of community members. While the refreshments were a true blessing, what made the impact even greater was the heart behind it. Volunteers took time to pray with individuals, offer encouragement, and share kind, uplifting words. Each cup of coffee became an opportunity to connect, bringing comfort, hope, and a sense of community to all who stopped by. We are so grateful for partnerships like this that go beyond meeting physical needs and truly minister to the heart. It was a beautiful reflection of God’s love in action, reminding us that even the simplest gestures can make a lasting difference.

Today, April 13th we were incredibly blessed by a generous act of kindness that reflects the heart of our mission. Bryan and Roseann provided a thoughtful donation of hygiene supplies for our men and women students. This gift goes beyond basic necessities - it is a reminder to our students that they are seen, valued, and cared for. Acts like these speak volumes, showing the love and compassion that make such a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. We are especially grateful to share that Bryan and Roseann will be continuing this on a monthly basis. Their commitment to consistently providing hygiene products and towels will have a lasting impact, offering encouragement and stability to our students as they walk their journeys. We are truly thankful for partners like Bryan and Roseann, whose generosity reflects God’s love in action. Their willingness to serve is a beautiful example of how small acts of kindness can create lasting change.

On Friday, April 3rd, our students were blessed by an incredibly thoughtful gesture from Mrs. Sharon and her friends. They brought Easter baskets for our male students to give to their children. This kind act not only brightened the kids’ day but also made our students feel truly appreciated and supported. Along with the baskets, Mrs. Sharon and her friends brought small gifts for all the students as well, showing just how much they care. Their generosity was a beautiful reminder of how kindness can make a real difference. We’re so thankful for their spirit of giving. Moments like these remind us that we’re all a family here at the Gospel Center Rescue Mission. Thank you, Mrs. Sharon and Friends, for bringing so much joy and warmth to our hearts this Easter season!

On Sunday, April 5th, Church Street Coffee had the privilege of being a part of the beautiful Easter Sunrise Service at Weber's Point. As the sun rose, the congregation gathered to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Church Street Coffee was there, serving hot, freshly brewed coffee to warm the hearts and hands of all who attended. It was a joyous morning of fellowship, prayer, and praise as the community came together to honor the true meaning of Easter.

On Saturday, March 28th, we were truly blessed to welcome back two of our past graduates who returned to share their powerful testimonies with our current students. It was a meaningful time filled with encouragement, reflection, and hope. Each testimony was a beautiful reminder of God’s faithfulness and transforming power. Our graduates shared where they have come from, the challenges they have overcome, and the ways the Lord has continued to work in their lives. Their words carried authenticity and truth, offering not only encouragement but a living example of what is possible through faith, perseverance, and surrender to Christ. For our students, this was more than just a time of listening - it was a moment to see hope in action. Hearing firsthand how lives have been changed helped plant seeds of belief and renewed strength for the journeys they are currently walking. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kerry Stahl and both of our graduates who took the time to come back and pour into our community. Your willingness to share your stories and speak life into others is a true blessing. As it says in Revelation 12:11, “They overcame by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” Your testimonies are making an eternal impact, and we are so grateful.

On Saturday, March 28th, we were incredibly blessed by the generous hearts of Quail Lakes Baptist Church, who came alongside us for a special planting project on our campus. Their team faithfully volunteered their time and energy to plant beautiful additions that have truly helped spruce up our grounds. What was once simply open space is now filled with new life, color, and warmth - creating a more welcoming and peaceful environment for all who walk through our campus. Beyond the physical transformation, this act of service was a powerful reminder of God’s love expressed through His people. Their willingness to serve with joy and purpose reflects the heart of ministry -loving others through action. It was a blessing to witness such kindness, teamwork, and dedication firsthand. We are deeply grateful for Quail Lakes Baptist Church and their commitment to serving our community. May the seeds they planted continue to grow - not only in beauty, but as a lasting symbol of faith, partnership, and the love of Christ.
