The Orchard Starkville is a church that exists to reach the 20,000 people in Starkville who are not connected to Jesus. We have increasingly confused loving someone with affirming someone. We think love means supporting whatever someone wants, validating whatever someone feels, and standing beside whatever decision they make. And certainly, loving friendship is encouraging, supportive, patient, and gracious. But biblical love wants something deeper than simply keeping someone happy with us. A loving friend wants God’s best for you more than they want your approval of them.

Sometimes an invitation is all it takes. A text. A conversation. A simple, “Come sit with me.”

There’s room for you, and there’s room for the person you’ve been thinking about inviting.

We weren’t meant to follow Jesus alone.

It’s easy to have plenty of people around us while still keeping our relationships on the surface. But Jesus calls us to something deeper: friendships where we truly know one another, love one another, and encourage one another to become more like Him.

This Sunday, we’re talking about the kind of relationships that take time, intention, and a willingness to show up for one another.

In Mark 3:14, Jesus appointed the twelve and called them apostles. Their job description? First, “to be with him.” Then, He would send them out to preach.
The order matters. Before we do for Jesus, we’re invited to be with Jesus. Before the doing, there’s the relationship. Before the mission, there’s a connection.
