“John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭27‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Fundamentalism has stood aloof…in self-conscious superiority and has on its own part fallen into error, the error of textualism, which is simply orthodoxy without the [Holy Spirit]. Everywhere among [them] we find persons who are Bible-taught but not Spirit-taught. They conceive truth to be something which they can grasp with the mind.” - A.W. Tozer

John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven.

Nikki Hooton Magee shares a great article about leading our kids to follow Jesus.

Our children see and know what our priorities are, and the things that are important to us will likely become important to them too.

“The flesh is everything in us that has not been touched by the Spirit and replaced by Christ…Not only do obvious sins fall into the flesh category, but also all that we are accustomed to calling good. Humanitarian accomplishments can be of the flesh, so can intellectual gifts…Whether or not a thing is fleshly or spiritual is not decided by its being good or evil, because both good and evil are manifestations of the flesh. ORIGIN determines what is of flesh or spirit. The flesh is everything that man conceives and undertakes of his own accord, for his own sake. Everything that is fleshly has its origin in man...The essential meaning of the flesh is self.” - The Mystery of God, Manfred Haller

Many denominations call their teaching Christ-centered, but the Son, His person, and His place in the holy counsel of God is not their center point. This entire body of teaching revolves around the redemption and salvation of man from out of the bo***ge of sin and death.
Evangelical theology is focused on salvation of the lost, on sin and forgiveness, justification, and holiness for the sinner. If we are brave enough to look at it closely, we notice that it is actually man who stands at the center of all things. Yes, man with his needs. And the servant of man, Christ! - Manfred Haller, The Mystery of God: Christ All and in All

“How tragic that we in this dark day have had our seeking done for us by our teachers. Everything is made to center upon the initial act of "accepting" Christ (a term, incidentally, which is not found in the Bible) and we are not expected thereafter to crave any further revelation of God to our souls. We have been snared in the coils of a spurious logic which insists that if we have found Him, we need no longer seek Him.” A.W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God

“…they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.””
‭‭Acts‬ ‭17‬:‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“They cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.””
‭‭John‬ ‭19‬:‭15‬ ‭ESV‬‬

A powerful contrast…

Jesus wasn’t crucified for being a nice guy who was friendly to the poor and sick. Death on a cross was reserved for traitors to Rome. He died a traitor’s death because his gospel, the good news, meant there was a new Kingdom, and he was the new King.
