TRIM YOUR WICKS IN 2026
Deanna V Trujillo
I asked the Lord for a word for our City of Destiny Church, and He said, “I want you to trim your wicks in 2026”.
That got me thinking about wicks and what happens when you let a candle burn for a long time. The wax goes down and the wick gets longer, and it gets more and more burnt and the flame gets higher and hotter, and it rises up above your candle. It can get dangerously too high and volatile.
Don’t get fired up about what the enemy is doing. Don’t get all fired up about what people are saying out there, all of the controversies, all of the confusion, the things the world is thinking and saying. Don’t let that burn you up! Stay burning for the Lord only. Keep your eyes on the Lord. We are not blow torches, burning out of control, blasting everyone away, destroying people before they even get a chance to know the love of God, and His Grace.
In the same way, some of us have gotten burned out. Because we’ve been burning for too long, and we’ve gotten too high and mighty in our over thinking about all of the confusion that’s in the world. We’ve allowed ourselves to get too hot and bothered by the world. We’ve been burning too hot. Trim away the things that are dead. Remember: “You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”
Maybe you’ve been burning out every part of your life too much, and haven’t gotten the rest that you’ve needed. The Lord says, “You can’t burn efficiently unless you trim your wick.” Allow the fire of God to begin again in your life. Let your priorities be straightened out correctly. Because that’s what happens if the wind is blowing over your candle and all these various things are happening. When the wick is not trimmed the flame gets stronger and hotter, and it gets out of control.
The Lord wants us to trim it down to where we are just on fire for Him. He doesn’t want us to get so caught up with all the other things that are going on around us.
Keep your wick trimmed and the flame burning for the Lord, because you need it, and the world needs to see what to believe in. Our light needs to shine, but it needs to shine in the right direction, and in the way God intended us to shine. That’s the kind of flame that needs to be burning.
A controlled fire in us is what the Lord wants, and the world is longing to see. A warm and controlled atmosphere that is burning continually for the Lord, showing the way through the darkness, with a fragrance that is attractive. Let it be your goal to keep your wick trimmed and your oil full, so that the power of God can use you in the correct way.
Note: When your wick is not trimmed: It is pride that causes it to grow too big and get too hot, create combustion and it will be a danger to be around. The smoke from being burnt out will blur your vision, and cause confusion in the air. It is a sign that the oil (of the Spirit) is running out when the wick is not trim, and will produce tiredness and emptiness in you; you need to trim your wick and get refilled. Trimming your wick will prolong the life, and give your light the longevity it needs.
