Since its inception, BASIC has partnered with Lutheran Church Jesus Christ our Savior in Santa Patricia, Nicaragua, focusing on healthcare, education, and shelter. Its healthcare efforts included vision clinics providing eye exams, glasses, and surgical referrals, serving 18,698 patients before ending due to government regulations requiring in-country clinicians. In education, BASIC supports children by funding school supplies and uniforms—costs that can equal up to three months’ wages—helping improve literacy and graduation rates in the community.
BASIC is also launching an English institute for children ages 6–12, starting with small classes and aiming to expand over time, with success measured by enrollment, attendance, and language proficiency. The program integrates Bible teachings and is managed locally with ongoing oversight and communication. In addition, BASIC addresses housing needs by building simple, durable homes alongside local workers, improving family health and stability; to date, 97 homes have been constructed while also providing job training for local apprentices.
