This Sunday's service: "The Vulnerable Journey of Healing" by Michelle DeRouen.
Often when you hear about people talk about healing, it seems like a linear journey. "I have already worked on that issue" comes up many times. In reality, healing is more like a spiral. A different version of the same issue can show up over and over again. Being vulnerable, and learning to have compassion for those who trigger us and for ourselves can feel like hard work.

This Sunday's service: "Loving the Questions" by Tracy Cook

This participatory, art-based worship experience invites people of all ages to explore curiosity, humility, and wonder together. Inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke’s invitation to “love the questions themselves,” participants will encounter the five sacred questions—Who? What? Where? When? and Why?—as invitations to explore, create, reflect, and discover new possibilities. Through creative stations and shared experiences, children and adults alike will have the opportunity to journey together, embracing questions not as problems to be solved, but as doorways into wonder and deeper understanding.

This Sunday's service: Profiles in Courage

I first saw it on my grandmother's bookshelf when I was probably five years old: John F. Kennedy's 1956 book Profiles in Courage. His was a political book, telling of courage through the stories of eight US senators. Even in that day he was criticized for including only men, so in 1958 he wrote an article on "Three Women of Courage."

The virtue of courage is hard to find in today's politics, but we need it. Reflect on this idea. Who has inspired you, in any sphere of life? Whose courage has been a source of strength and hope? I'll share some stories that speak to me.

This Sunday's service: "Facing the God of AI"

There is something awe-inspiring about AI, but also something unpredictable and a little intimidating as well. Whatever you think about data centers or “slop” images, it looks like the “noosphere” of the Super Mind is here to stay. We have a chance, right now, to establish approaches and address this rising frontier of capability and intelligence in ethical ways that benefit our world and our growth as a species. How will our Unitarian Universalist understandings of interdependence, transformation, and justice help us to avoid the kind of mistakes we made with our “biosphere”-- with the original “interconnected web” of our existence? How will awareness of our responsibility and our inner sense of right and wrong help us make good decisions at the crucial opening of this new age?

Our canine partners are even more than emotional healers, loyal companions, and mirrors of unconditional love. Dogs know how to "do love". Susan Blackmore will share perspectives from her personal life as a serial foster of rescues and handler of a medical alert service dog.

This Sunday's service: "Holy Wounds: Healing from Religious Trauma in UU Spaces" by Monica White

Monica White, the Pastafarian Minister, presents: Holy Wounds: Healing from Religious Trauma in UU Spaces.
The road to UU can be rocky. Let’s take some time to acknowledge the pain that can come from any form of organized religion, and remind ourselves that while we purport to offer a safe space for all, there is still a lot of inherent anger, fear, and ingrained trauma that we must overcome with our outreach.
This is an attempt to offer some nontraditional relatability from the pulpit, which can feel scary to many people…and to let those people know that Tapestry welcomes them, too.

No In-Person or Zoom service this Sunday, But Opportunities to Connect With the Community.

On Sunday, September 13, Tapestry will be off-site while CJCN holds Rosh Hashanah services. The Worship Team has decided that this is the perfect opportunity for Tapestry to get out into the community! Instead of gathering at CJCN that Sunday, we invite you to find your own way to connect, contribute, explore, or lend a hand. Then, when we gather again on Sunday, September 20, we’ll have an opportunity to share with one another how you got involved!

Here are a few ideas:

* Volunteer to plant seeds in NAM’s Community Garden! There are many opportunities, not just on September 13, so feel free to volunteer on another day if that works better for you! Sign up at NAM’s website.
* Volunteer at a pet shelter near you. Some shelters require more than a one-day commitment or have age restrictions, so be sure to check their requirements before showing up.
* Join a clean-up crew at a nearby park—or create your own! And perhaps enjoy a picnic in your newly beautified space afterward!
* Spend some time contacting your representatives about an issue you feel passionate about. Look up key phrases to use or even find a pre-written letter, but remember to include your own details and experiences to make your message personal.
* Visit a museum, either in person or virtually, and leave a positive comment or review about your experience.
* Come up with your own way to get involved! Big or small, we’d love to hear about it.

Water Communion is a beloved Unitarian Universalist tradition celebrating community, connection, and renewal. Please bring water from places or experiences that hold special meaning for you, and we will combine those waters into a shared vessel. As the waters mingle, they symbolize the many journeys, stories, and gifts we each bring to our community, and remind us that, together, we create something greater than any one of us.
